Default Temperature question

On a drive yesterday outside air temp was 85, oil temp 237, coolant 212, trans 212. 35 mile drive home. Do these seem excessive? Coolant was replaced this spring. 2007 base coupe A6. 63,000 miles. Thanks for any input.

If you were in stop and go traffic and sitting at lights these are about right. If you were steady cruising on the highway they do seem a little bit high but not excessive. Search the forum and you should find more information.

Seems a little high if you were on the hwy, normal for stop n go.

In the 100's here and mine was at 203 to 205 on the hwy at 75 mph. That has me worried. Gonna flush the radiator and condenser in the morning.

A little high, check the front of radiator to make sure you did not pick up any obstruction.

Ya the coolant seems a little high. I have seen 235 oil with mid 190's coolant during a long trip on a climb.

Coolant pump is driven via rpm. So higher rpm my coolant comes down some at low rpm it will read higher.

4:10 differential so at 70 mph I am at 1800 rpm, once I see around 2000rpm my coolant drops to 189-191* 180* stat.

Conditions? My oil never gets that hot driving at the speed limit always moving. If you were in Phoenix idling in traffic, that's cool.

I have been working on my condenser, there are a lot of the fins bent over blocking airflow. Have a dental pic I have been using to straighten them.

Anyone know a better way?

I think some one makes a fin comb, I would have to do some research to find it.

I have a fun comb for hvac. Problem is the fins are only 1/3 of a inch long and are sandwiched between horizontal bars.

Area behind grill was about 50% blocked. Got some done but it's too dang hot now. Will get up early and do some more, then flush it with my home made wand.

My trans runs about 185. 200-205 when it's hot out or hilly, but it takes a while to get there. That puts it at 3/4 on the HUD gauge, normal, I think for A6, but too hot for my liking.

Amazon shows two different types, I have never used either so don't know if they work but they are cheap.

My condenser looks like that, what would be the cause for them to bend over? I do use the high pressure wash at the car wash to wash it off, so maybe that is the cause??

Just bugs, sand and road debris. They take a beating, more so at speed.

Air must flow through the condenser to get to the radiator. So impaired airflow through the condenser will cause higher water temps.

Reach under the front fascia. It is open in front of the air dam. The air dam deflects air up through this opening to the condenser and radiator.

I look through the grill, but work from underneath.

After you take off the intake (air bridge) and the radiator/condenser top support, you have about an inch of space to insert a water wand and spray out the condenser from the back side.
