Not that my wipers get much use, but while detailing this weekend see a little tear in one blade.... Is there any brand that is a "must have"..... I've been just fine with the stock GM blades...
And I just thought of it and haven't researched yet, but has anyone just replaced the rubber portion, and slid it in to the existing metal...
I drove in the rain a couple weeks ago (eek, I know), and I didn't even need my wipers. The car's been waxed so much that the water just repels right off.
Yes, according to some fairly recent posts, you can just replace the rubber part ... called a refill.
I replaced mine with OEMs too, from the dealer. About $12 each for the entire blade. One that works really well, but doesn't have the little wing on the driver's side, is a RainX Latitude. They're more expensive than OEM. Both Bosch and Michelin have similar blades that are slightly less expensive.
I have the Bosch Icons on the vette and the rain-X latitude on my daily driver. They both are the newer beam type blades and I like them both. Just bought the ones that were on sale at the time.
They are rather expensive at $20-$25 each, if you don't get them on sale. However IMO they seem to last longer then the regular style blades.

Refills are getting harder to find Trip. And they always seemed to be somewhat problematic to install. I don't use mine much either so I just replaced them with some mid-grade ones from Bauch (sp) I think. What i want to know is why in the hell did GM make the passenger side arm where it only comes up a few inches ??? Help me Mr. Wizard !!!!

Last time I bought RainX Latitudes, they were about $17 at Wal Mart (depending on the length), and the Bosch and Michelin beam-types were $2-3 cheaper. Are they up to $25ish now? Regardless, they are very good blades, and also do better in the winter than the ones with an open frame. And I agree ... they last longer.

Bought two Trico 45-205 refills at O'Reilly Auto. $6.29 each. Xlnt.

I would guess they came down in price then gone up. Though depends on where you shop. Auto stores are still alittle more expensive then Walmart but are actually cheaper if on sale.
Bought mine about 2 years ago for the vette, Bought the rain-x ones for my Daily a few months ago on sale at Target for $17 each plus a $10 gift card to use later, which made them $12 each sort of.

I avoid Trico but mainly on principal, as they had a few factories local to me and my uncle worked there. They closed them down and moved the factories to Mexico.
Since mine is a DD, and we get a lot of pollen and rain in Florida, I went all out and tried the RainX Repel.
You run them dry on your car for a few minutes in the parking lot, and it cleans and coats your windshield with RainX.
About a year later, they are still working great, I use them almost daily.
They are expensive, but I'll most likely buy them again when these start to wear out.
The original ones scared me, because when they rip/fail, you risk having the metal parts scratching your windshield And if it fails, it's going to be in the middle of the rain, and you won't want to turn them off.......
Another vote for rainx, but like previously stated, waterflies off my windshield when moving so well, that I dont go past low intermittent. Lucky so far

I went from using stoners invisible glass to the Rain-X spray cleaner
Cleans just as good, and causes water to bead and roll up the windshield.
I posted this a while back, some took offense and some liked. I have been using steel wool on my GLASS forever to get it really clean so when I saw this video it sort of re-invented the use.
Purpose of this reply is that your wipers will run as smooth as they can possibly run. I used the method and it WORKS, rain (not on my Corvette, God forbid ) absolutely just sheets off in little droplets. So take it for what its worth, sorry for the hi jack. Happy motoring

Whatever is at Costco. For under $10, I'll replace them whenever necessary. Working great for me so far. I think the last pair I got was Goodyear brand

The Corvette transmission used to be made in the USA but my 2013 auto is made in Mexico. Guess I'll have to sell....

After your post a couple of weeks ago, I tried the 0000 steel wool method that you posted, and it works great for removing bugs and other gunk. I didn't do the RainX follow up, but the steel wool does no harm and my windshield has never been cleaner.
Pay as much for a set of wipers as possible. That's the Corvette way.
In actuality, any wipers will do.
Not really. I used RainX Latitude on my 2001 Mazda truck because they worked so well and lasted a good 4 years, even though it stayed outside year round. They really do work a lot better than the cheapies, and they are QUIET ... no scrubbing. I can't stand wipers that skip across the windshield.
