A Useful Smartphone Bracket
I made this unit out of cheap, easily-available parts. If you want one it'll take you less than an hour to make it and cost less than $10, assuming you already have a suction-cup bracket.
NOTE: Don't make that cut-off section any longer than 1 1/2" or the two and caps may not meet. You want them to meet so that the base
will drop completely into the cup holder and allow the lid to close. You probably won't need to close it, but why not make it possible?
NOTE: You may not need to put hairspray on the suction cup if it holds well anyway. Mine needed it or it would let go after a few days. With hairspray, it holds on real tight for a long time.
This is a very stable, secure mount assuming that there is weight in the base. You could use lead shot or gravel or some of your wife's collection of earrings but why not use something useful?
The front cupholder is still usable.
Obviously, it's just a quick turn of the unit in the cupholder for the passenger to see it.
I use ram mounts for my vehicles and their new suction cup claps holds up in the texas heat.
I stick mine on the glass at 5 o'clock to the mirror and don't have to look down to view the map...
But i do like the enginering.
Same reason I wouldn't give a Blend Mount for a radar detector room in the car; it blocks my view of the road ahead and to the right.I do have a Valentine 1 mounted high to the left of the mirror, though, and that's no problem.
Too easy...
