Avoid all physical confrontations at all costs. People are just plain insane. They are in a hurry it's all about me me me and you will always be wrong.

I got attacked by a Chicago public school teacher. He was 605 290. I'm 511 175. He claimed he was a cop jumped out of his suv and was pounding on my car window with his closed fist. It was all Over road rage on his end. I got lucky and there was a cop on the corner of the street and he arrested this school teacher. This guy also then wanted to fight with the police and made a statement on the incar dash cam saying, yes I identified myself as a Wisconsin cop who cares. This could have gone real bad for him. If he would have broke out my window I would have had to shoot him.

He got arrested for felony impersonating a peace officer and agg assault. Last month it got pleaded out to reckless conduct and year probation. I just love chicago and crook county.

My point just try to avoid anything at all costs. It's just not worth it.

As a former LEO, I don't recall that law on our state statutes. We have highway markings that require BIG trucks to use right lanes and we have passing zones on some roadways (steep inclines for example). No such laws though, just general courtesy.

However...........we do have laws for following too close and impeding the flow of traffic.
They recently passed a law requiring slower traffic in the left lane to move over to the right for faster traffic. You can be fined if driving 10mph or more below the limit in left lane. It has always been a law that you cannot pass on the right in Florida. It is just plain courtesy for slower traffic to be in far right of three lanes as I was in this case. Had I been in the left(fast) lane I would have simply moved over and got out of the way. I had cars in front of me and could not go faster than I was due to that.

I always let the other driver "win".....short of an act to protect yourself from physical harm there is nothing there that warranted the risk, especially with passengers involved.....thanks for sharing

40 years ago, a person taking your position would have been called a wimp, for just sitting there while this guy pounded on your window.
Especially if you're carrying.

Today, you get called, smart!

Didn't need to brake check. Just flip the rear view mirror up and hit cruise control. That's what I do. At the end of the day, I have a friggin Vette.

Today's society is so messed up. Darin Wilson, Baltimore PD, LAPD, take your pick. As long as the media is running BS propaganda and Eric holder is in charge you better be getting killed before you shoot someone. Look what's happening in St Lious right now. All my fellow corvette freinds be safe out there. When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

No passing on the right and slow traffic keep right. That is the law in my state and most other states.
I learned years ago while driving on the circle tracks that if some one is behind you, good, their view never changes. Though this was not a race, it never bothered me to have some one close behind. If they tap you from 5 feet away, it was better than getting hit by some one with a much higher speed than you. I know that you don't want to get a scratch on your car, but he likely also did not want to hit you, just scare you. And that ill only happen if you let it. Yes, I have been there. Maintain control of your vehicle. That is your only job.

Did either one of you have a camera or video capability? That would help your situation if anything did happen.
You were in the right by law and you had no need to change your route or speed.

With that said, let me ask a hard question of you. Could you have done something that may have caused him to target just you? In the previous miles of travel, could you have changed lanes while he had a higher speed than you, perhaps causing him to react? Could anything have happened that you did not realize happened. I am not accusing you of possible driver error, just asking. Have you asked yourself this question? My point is, we have all seen things happen in traffic that one of the drivers involved did not even recognize as a potential issue.
Again, not saying something occurred, just asking you if you have asked yourself that same question.

Haven't read all the posts, but having a brother who suffers from carcinoid crisis attacks (horrible form of cancer episodes that could potentially be fatal) I can tell you that sometimes I'm in a serious hurry to the ER to get to him. So my point is you never know what the driver behind you is going through, he could be responding to a family emergency or transporting an injured friend or relative. Trust me I can't stand idiots on the road either but if there was no other lanes available to him I would just swallow my pride and assume he's got an emergency on his hands and move out of his way.

Sorry to hear about your brothers problems but it still doesn't give people like you the right to jeapradize others lives by speeding to an emergency.

You weren't entirely in the wrong, but brake checking is a stupid thing to do. You'd have been responsible for all damages had they pulled your cpu data. 4800 lb steel truck with mediocre brakes vs a 3200lb polyurethane Corvette with outstanding brakes. If he had hit you, you lose...in a big way.

Your grammar gives me a headache as well.

How were you able to lighten your car to that extent?

I'm not saying it gives me or anyone else the right to drive recklessly, but if you or I were trying to get to our daughter for example who you knew was in a serious, life threatening situation and wanted to go faster then 58mph, I might try to get the driver's attention in front of me by waving him to the side. I wouldn't tailgate someone however and create a dangerous situation, so in that respect the guy in the truck was an idiot.

Good catch, Hammy. I blame my phone's inability to read my mind quickly enough. I shall correct my typo at once, and drink a beer in your honor.

Had a similar situation about a year ago. Six lane divided highway (interstate) and really heavy traffic. A guy came up behind me, and I mean really close, flashing his lights. I don't know what I was supposed to do. I was in the SLOW lane next to the shoulder of the road. He finally went flying around me on the passenger side. Needless to say the rocks and gravel were airborne. There was nothing but cars in front of me for quite some distance... what was this idiot thinking? Try to understand, there are many people out there drunk, on drugs and of course texting. As much as you might like to...confrontation or a gun (heaven forbid) is not the solution. Take the "upper road" that way you'll be driving the Vette tomorrow.

Thanks for all the posts and opinions. I knew I would probably take some heat over the brake check issue. It was a quick one to get his attention as I did not want him hitting my car obviously.

You guys did catch the part where he flew around me and actually STOPPED in the road in front of me. Obviously he was not on an emergency run if he took the time to do that.

I mention being armed to point out the fact that when you f#%k with someone on the highway you don't really know the risk you are taking as you don't know the person in the other car. Fortunately for him I am not an irresponsible trigger happy hot head.

For those who have taken the time to criticize my grammar or paragraph structure....really? It has been a long time since high school/college and writing papers has not been a part of my job description the past 40+ years. While my grammar may not be perfect I am pretty sure that my writing was clear and understandable. So in the words of Hillary...what difference does it make?

Is it me or does it seem like people stray of the OPs original point when they post here. I clearly understood that not only did he ride your azz, but then he pulled around you and stopped. Now to me you being a rational person you didn't fly off the handle and brandish your weapon, so I think you are a responsible gun owner. We can all draw an inference of the other drivers actions that he was clearly a jerk who was in a rush and was in his own world of ME ME ME.

As far as the brake check, you will get a million opinions on that, but two wrongs dont make a right. Clearly you were a little, just a little aggravated, I dont blame you.

I personally find it funny guys who are the grammar police here. Yes, what difference does it make?

Living in the Houston area, this type of occurrence is common. And usually ends up in a shooting of some sort.
I was given some good advice before, "you never know who the crazies are".
I let everyone have what they want on the roadway. You want in front? Go ahead. You want in THIS lane? Go ahead.
This way of thinking has come with age as well.

As you now realize, a brake check is a stupid move. It could end in disaster that would be your fault. And you're 64 years old and still flipping off people on the highway? Also a stupid and immature thing to do, something one might expect some kid to do, after all, you really didn't know what his story was, erratic driving notwithstanding.
