I learned years ago while driving on the circle tracks that if some one is behind you, good, their view never changes. Though this was not a race, it never bothered me to have some one close behind. If they tap you from 5 feet away, it was better than getting hit by some one with a much higher speed than you. I know that you don't want to get a scratch on your car, but he likely also did not want to hit you, just scare you. And that ill only happen if you let it. Yes, I have been there. Maintain control of your vehicle. That is your only job.

Did either one of you have a camera or video capability? That would help your situation if anything did happen.
You were in the right by law and you had no need to change your route or speed.

With that said, let me ask a hard question of you. Could you have done something that may have caused him to target just you? In the previous miles of travel, could you have changed lanes while he had a higher speed than you, perhaps causing him to react? Could anything have happened that you did not realize happened. I am not accusing you of possible driver error, just asking. Have you asked yourself this question? My point is, we have all seen things happen in traffic that one of the drivers involved did not even recognize as a potential issue.
Again, not saying something occurred, just asking you if you have asked yourself that same question.
Good question but I would have to say no, that I did not do anything to bring the situation on. We had pulled out onto this road from a restaurant about a mile and a half back, did not pull out in front of anybody and I quickly got up to about 65mph and shortly encountered traffic that caused me to have to slow down and that is where I was when the guy came up behind me.

Since we can't get any info from what the other driver was doing lets just say the OP made a mistake and not a stupid move. If he were to just let off the gas pedal and let the car coast is that a stupid move? Obviously the OP made some irrational decisions, not stupid. He didn't brandish his weapon or start a fist fight. Lets be a little compassionate for the OP.

Lets just say he was driving and this guy was a jerk, who here has not gotten mad over a road rage incident? It happens. Flipping the bird, immature, pulling in front of another car, looking for trouble, thats stupid.

Lets not forget according to the OP the other driver was violating numerous traffic laws, following too close, tailgating, cutting off another driver.

I give the OP the benefit of the doubt here that he was just enjoying the day, and some azz wipe started a situation that ended with no one getting hurt. Dont tell me no one here has not gotten upset over another driver. I have and did not do anything bad over it.

While I really get upset with idiots like that, and trust me, it is almost every day, I try to keep cool. I, too, carry a concealed weapon, but I cannot imagine taking a life, and ruining mine, over some knuckle dragger that wants to play Dale Earnhardt. No, you did nothing wrong, whatsoever, and I would have done the same thing, but unless the idiot got out of the car, I think you did the right thing. I would have kept the action away from my wife, and sometimes the smart thing is to walk away. That guy will get his, but I would let it be someone else who deals out the justice.

Everyday I see crap in SHITchago were someone thinks the laws dont apply to them. If the police are not around, there are no traffic rules whatsoever. I would say that almost all of the board members here are level headed good people with common sense. Be careful out there my friends its only getting worse.
