Default Changing brake pads

So, I'm sick of the brake dust on the wheels of my 60th Anniversary 427 and have decided to change the pads to ceramic pads. For the guys that have already done this, is there anything special I need to know before I do it?

Thanks

Don't know about there procedure. May want to start a new thread on that I can give you this one.

1. Brake from 60mph down to 30mph

about 4-6 times.

2. Then let your brakes cool for about 5-10

minutes while driving with out using the brake pedal.

4. Allow the brake pads and discs to cool

down to ambient temperature (about 30

minutes or more).

NOTE: do not use E brake.

These are the same pads I have installed and you will like them. Clean, quiet, and there is no difference in stopping.

I didn't do anything special after installing. (other than my normal "make sure car stops" test in a safe place before getting into traffic)

I want to change to ceramic pads on my Z51.

No issues with keeping the same rotors when changing pads? Do I need to get a cut off the rotors? I'd rather not, I don't trust the dealership goons to not mess it up.

As long as I seat the pads correctly will I be fine?

Good info. Thanks for posting.

Any suggestions on getting the caliper bolts to break loose?

I'm having mine done on the 28th. I can't wait to see what happens. I also went with DuraLast Gold. I'm having mine changed by a shop, so I can't help with the bolt issue.

Why are you taking the caliper bolts off? If you are changing rotors, I can see the need. Or, if you have a GS and are going to one piece pads I can see the need. If you are just changing pads, no need to remove the caliper.
They are a PITA to break loose and to torque up if you don't have the car on a lift. I struggled with the 125 ft lb torque when tightening them up because I was not in a good position with the torque wrench.
Also. you need to clean the Loctite off the bolt and apply new Loctite before torqueing them up.

I am assuming you are suggesting removing the pins but I have read a few stories that it was just as difficult and that some damaged the pins. I'm still weighing the options. Thanks for the info.

Rusty, I left the caliper on the car and just removed the pins. Fairly easy. Just be careful reinstalling the pins. They need to be patiently placed back in. The padlets have semi-circle notches that need to line back up. Just take your time and it'll be fine. Took me about an hour to do each axle, was my first time...

Good luck!

I have a thread I started on brake pads awhile back. I couldn't stand the brake dust on my 13 GS. This might be some useful info for you.

I have changed pads on a friends GS when he wanted to go to the one piece. Removed the calipers. That is how I know the difficulty I mentioned. I have changed the padlets with Duralast Gold on my last two GS cars (don't ask) by removing the pins and have had no issue with pin removal.

I changed them myself. Read the directions that Adam posted and it's no big deal. The calipers are on tight (about 140ft) so that will take some effort. Besure and retorque them the same.
I did what he said on seating, all should be fine. I cant tell any difference in the stopping and now I am dust free....
