Amen to that!

My house was built only 2 years ago.
The garage is 24' 6" deep, which is a little deeper than many 2 car garages, and I enjoy that extra room.

However, it's only 19' 6" wide, with a 16' door.
It should be called a 1 and a 1/2 car garage, not a 2 car garage.

My home was not custom built, so I had no option but to accept the builder's specs, or not purchase the house.

As you can see in the photo, my right side wheels are at the 1/2 way point in the garage's width.
That's where I need to park to get out of my 'vette easily.

With my wife's SUV in there as well, in order that she not touch my car, she has to squeeze out sideways, with her door open no more than 1/3 of it's swing.
My wife is an average woman, 5' 6" 136 lb, size 6-8.

So, unless there is a big storm coming, her car gets left outside in the driveway all the time.

The narrow 2 car garage is why I park my car in backwards, with the passenger side a safe distance from the wall, but close enough that one cannot enter or exit the car on that side. I started doing that at our former house. This house's garage is indeed wider than my old garage, and is a tandem garage so I have plenty of room in the tandem area for workbench and storage, and thereby freeing up wall space in the car parking area. My wife's car is parked in the normal manner and aimed a little toward my car so to have access from both sides of her car. Even so there is still 4ft. between hers and mine.

I agree, parking as you stated does provide extra room between cars.
When I did that, I think it gave us another 18" or so.
It did help, but the garage was still difficult to navigate for items on shelves, and just for the ability to use any part of the garage for anything at all.
The cars leave no wiggle room for anything else.
As you can see in my photo, with just the 'vette in the garage, there's plenty of working area as well.
My wife's adapted.

Because of the weather here in Arizona, we pretty much have to park in the garage to protect the paint and interior from the Sun.
Also, my wife is not one to adapt easily, and she certainly wouldn't consider parking outside just to give my car the extra room

Seems like alot of members have alot of time to bash and hate when it's not exactly they way they think it should be. OP is asking for help not asking to be roasted. I'm a newer member and enjoy seeing everyone's Corvettes. If he wants to shave his doors, more power to him. It's HIS car. I'm sure he's thought about the what ifs , etc. Good luck !

I have been throwing around the idea to do vertical doors on my car. I know, I know, why in the world would someone do that to a Corvette. I played football in HS and rugby in college, and really did my knees in. Now nearly 74 years old, my knees aren't as flexible as i would like. I can get in and out with the door completely open, however, it's still difficult on my right knee. If the door was lifted up vertically, I would have about 5 more inches of room for my right leg to get out of the car, which would be much easier. So, I'm still not certain about the vertical doors, but they are looking better and better as I get older. The great thing about the vertical door kit I have been contemplating, is that you can either open the door "conventionally", or vertically. It's pretty trick!

No, we just hate it when someone revives a 7.5 year old thread to berate others for expressing their opinion.
