Corvette rivalries?
Forget just straight line performance, and look at the total package of the corvette and something like high speed road coarse work instead.
In USA cars short of say the Viper, all the other American cars would need a ton of upgrades to be able run them at that speed level to begin with. In say the mustang, your looking at close to $20 grand by the time you upgrade the brakes and suspension to even consider them safe to be run lap after lap of speeds over 140mph range.
So this now leaves you with the imports instead for that level of performance of the vet/viper, and lets be blunt, the price tag on them just doubled for the same high speed road course type OEM car.
So what this leaves, the Corvette is the best value per dollar for a high speed road course car that will do over 180mph in stock from, and has the correct brakes and suspension for that OEM from the start.
To sum it up, take a look at the below link and lap times, then start putting prices on the cars to boot.

Bluntly put, racing does not get fun until you crack through the 150mh mark time and time again, and throw some turns in to the mix as well.
So, mustang at 160mph and notice that its twicky at that speed, and you can see the unibody frame flexing to boot as well,
ZR1 at over 200mph and nothing harry about it at all instead,

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
Pseudo supercar for the masses.....

On the street I am sure the Mustang's are trying to see if they can beat a Corvette simply for bragging rights and nothing else.
I don't like to muse the word enemies, so I will say cars that are comparable to the Corvette in the terms of speed and handling would be the Porsche, Ferrari and Lambo.

Great post!FWIW: I have a good friend named Dan, and I've been calling him "Dano" for a couple of decades now, from the guy in the original Hawaii Five-O TV show (the new Five-0 sucks, IMO).
Is that where you get the nickname too?
