You ever lock the keys in the trunk of a 'normal' car?
Well you can do the same with the C6.
Turning off Auto Lock will not prevent the hatch/trunk from locking when the lid is closed. It always locks regardless of what the doors are doing.
Again, just like a 'normal' car.
As stated repeatedly above, the fob antennas are fairly directional and the one at the rear 'looks' out the back end to 'see' the fob if/when the button above the license plate is pushed.
On rare occasions the fob in a bag/pocket/etc that is tossed in the trunk ends up landing close enough to the fob antenna for it to be recognized and you can still open the trunk. This is dumb luck.
Hide a metal key, just like you'd do with any 'normal' car.
This is why I'll never cancel my Onstar. I've locked the fob in the trunk at least five times. Amazing how Onstar can unlock your car from outer space.
Now you learned to hide key, next step is to take piece of duck tape, and cut it to size of quarter and cover the truck key, to keep it clean, other wise it will fill with dirt, and the key won't be able to slide in to open hatch.
That button won't work if the fob was inside the car like the OP said.
That's not entirely correct! On my 08, if the FOB is placed within 6" near the rear of the car it will allow the button to work, but at 12" it will be out of range.

That's totally normal if you're talking about the fob OUTSIDE the car? This whole thread is about the fob being INSIDE the car in the cargo area.

No, I'm talking about leaving the FOB laying INSIDE the cargo area about 6" from the back. At 12" it did not work. I just tried this on my 08. My doors were all locked and would not open with the FOB inside at either distance. But the hatch button worked, if the FOB was centered within 6" of the rear inside the cargo area.
Sorry, I did not make myself clear in the previous post.

No one complained about this in the '70s. Lock the keys in the trunk and it's a bad situation...no different now. And no Onstar in the '70s either. How did we ever live back then???
I'm sure you guys know this already, but a Corvette owner actually died being locked inside his car from the heat because he didn't know about the door release near the door.

He also didn't know the roof is removable in his 2007 coupe or how to break an auto window properly? He died with the manual on his lap. I don't know if he had reading glasses with him, but forgot his cell phone. The cause was a loose battery cable and 98* outside heat! James Rogers was 72 year old army veteran, RIP!
