Went into the dealer today to get an oil change and trans service. I also asked them to check the harmonic balancer since every once in a while especially on rainy or damp days I would hear the chirping. Well the news was the balancer was shot the tech had never seen one wobble that bad,so now that is being fixed. I am having them do it since they guarantee the parts and labor for life and I trust them to do a good job
I took mine in to have it checked, it was out of spec, ordered the parts, tech found the power steering lines leaking, and a leaky trans cooler line. Still on the hoist with it's guts hanging out because one of the new lines was damaged. All covered under the certified used car warranty!!
If possible could you post a video? Mine has always wobbled, dealer says its within factory tolerances, but it looks bad to me. No belts chirps, however.
Get that guarantee in writing, I can't imagine any dealer being so generous unless they charge an extra arm and leg over and above the usual arm and a leg
FYI : I had mine replaced by a Corvette Specialty Shop with an ATI balancer for $1200.00 parts and labor.
I guess it helps to live in a small market area, but I had an ATI installed, a new pulley, GM water pump, and gatorback belts, along with a tune, for $1400.
Mine went out on my 08 a little over a year ago. I noticed the balancer was wobbly at first but didn't pay it any mind. I ended up taking the car in after it started chirping very loudly on startups. Turned out that my balancer, idler pulley, and belt needed to be replaced. Was all done in GM Crawford, El paso for $990(est). Great shop and had everything done by the next day.
The parts and labor are guaranteed when you buy the parts from them and we all know dealers prices are high but for the guarantee I was willing to pay that. If I would have purchased the part from another source no guarantee even from GM parts direct. For all the work I am having done, trans fluid change, spark plugs, plus the balancer, which includes a wheel alignment $1100.00 thats with a 15% discount for being a loyal customer. The car is an 08 and has 106k miles
Hmmm. Warranty or no warranty, I couldn't have the same faulty damper installed - again. My '10 GS is scheduled to go under the knife next Monday. I'm supplying an ATI and ARP bolt AND a pinning kit. Same money, but definitely not the same quality.

Good luck.
I was going to suggest what you did, I'm sure some shops would not do after market parts. I went with ATI also as many do...

That's apparently the way to go, and I will if mine goes out. Is it covered on the 5 year powertrain warranty???

I had to do mine when I bought the car.
I was in it for 600.00 when it was done.
Jegg's HB 25% UD
Shorter belts
PS Reservoir
2 x Tie rod ends - The rubber boots were gone
Anti-freeze
Motor Oil
PS Fluid
Alignment
HB Install tool
Blue Point / Snap-On HB Puller
Money saved and I was able to buy some new tools for the cabinet.
I hope I never have to do that job again... It was bad!

My thoughts exactly. I've never heard of that one from any dealer. Might be a little confusion there...but if not...well good for him.
There's a local Ford dealer than advertises lifetime powertrain warranty on all its new vehicles. I'm sure it's not good at other dealerships though, but probably the OP's balancer warranty is only good at the repairing dealership too.
