Since the compartments are small what do you use for getting some extra space?
I have a Vette Bin by Vette Nutts. It has two lighted storage compartments and a ledger board in front so items do not slide off the shelf during braking or turns. It's been a great addition.

Also, forgot to mention that the top can still be stowed away with the partition and the vette bin in place.

ROLA bin from Amazon in the back of mine. The heavy rubber base secures it in place, and I put a metal rod in the front flap of my cargo cover with Velcro strips that secures it to the front of the ROLA's Velcro strip, and no more flapping in the wind when the windows are down. Works great!

I seem to remember someone posting that they removed the partition in the trunk that protects the power top on conv. I think you have to secure the pushbutton that keeps top from lowering when partition is removed. does anyone have any info on this? would open up a lot of additional space in convertibles.

You don't need to remove it, just lay it flat on the bottom of the trunk.
I did this when I moved my son to college. We put his clothes in garbage bags, and with the partition attached, loaded it from the top of the tonneau when it was partially closed up to the top of the bumps, and then closed the top in the up position. We then opened the trunk, unhooked the partition and filled in the rest of the trunk. You can fit much more than you think this way. Drove the whole way with the top up, and when we arrived, we unloaded everything from the trunk. All the stuff up in the tonneau area just fell down and we could remove it that way. I attached the partition and drove home with the top down.
Don't fool the car into thinking the partition is snapped if you plan on moving the top; that's a surefire way to break something.
I use the back compartment (on the driver's side at the rear of the cargo area) for jumper cables and a small took kit and use the black box below (I picked it up at WalMart for under $10) to store various items to include iPhone charger, small change, digital camera, batteries, first-aid kit, maps, etc.
BTW, I have to drive the beer to Florida because they don't have any distributors for Ballantine Ale there.
