I have an 08 automatic. This morning I got no response when trying to start the engine. Pressing the brake and pressing the button did nothing. Finally after getting out and back in I just press the start button and did not press the brake and it cranked. Is this a future problem with the fob or is it something else? I just don't care to get stranded , thinking everything is o.k.

For some reason your BCM computer became confused. It happened to me once when I got in and pushed the start button very quickly before the window had finished indexing. I opened the door and closed it and took my time and it has worked ever since. Starting is a very complicated procedure involving several computers communicating across a serial bus and radio signals. If this ever happens again, let us know. Until then...

It shouldn't do that at all without pressing the brake pedal. It shouldn't do anything if you just press the Start button, other than possibly a DIC message telling you to use the brake pedal.
Have you tried it again since it started that way?

I get that every now and then and have to move the fob closer. Might be time to change fob battery.
No. But after it started, I began to drive and the Service Active Handling message came on. I don't know if this could be related or just a coincidence..

How old is the car battery? Weak batteries are known to cause all sorts of problems in our cars. Never had a battery last over 2 1/2 years. Might be our hot summers.

I just cranked the car , with no problem, went to the gym. Then I started it again and went to lunch and cranked it one more time to go back to work. It had no issues, cranking or warning messages. So I don't know what happened, but it doesn't give me a lot of confidence.
As wayback questioned the condition of your battery, I would have the battery load tested, just to be safe in that regard. Most auto parts stores will test it for free.

And there's only one problem with that suggestion. There are over 20 computers in a C6 and none of them "reset" by disconnecting the battery. Every one is rebooted either by the BCM or the BCM reboots itself after a timeout without of proper functioning. Disconnecting the battery works because, while you are doing that, the BCM times out and reboots itself which it would have done anyway. Disconnecting the battery is a very common "urban legend" that is also dangerous if you spark the connection inserting voltage spikes into the computers.
As an update. I had another experience today with the car not responding some times or displaying for me to press the brake, which I was. It finally cranked. This is the first time in nearly 9 months that this has happened. The starter never drags and the battery never appears weak. When it decides to start, it starts. It takes about 5 minutes. My only concern is when it decides to just not crank. I will take it to the dealer, but if feel as though not much can be done until it is not starting.

I wouldn't do anything if it's working ok now, i walked away from my car the other day for a 20 minute period and the door didn't shut all the way, when i got back i tried to start the car and the dic said ABS service brakes, i sat in the car, closed the doors and let the car shut down correctly and when i re-started the car all messages had cleared and no problems since.
