Default Engine Temperature Sensor

Hi guys I have a 2008 C6 and my temperature gauge went crazy the other day and it would go from 100 to 220, up and down randomly. I read up in the forum that it sounds like its the temperature sensor on the side of the drivers side engine block behind the alternator. I was just wondering if it is possible to change out the sensor without draining the antifreeze from the radiator as long as I do it in the morning with the engine cold? Let me know if anyone has some advise on this repair?

It's possible but very messy. Of course your going to get coolant out the hole once the sender is removed. If done quickly, it can be done. Once removed, if it's feasible to put your finger over the hole as you remove the sender and quickly re-install the new unit.
Start the car and let it get to full operating temp and refill as needed.

i did exactly what Extrapilot mentions. Worked like a charm.
Not a lot of room to work in there, but it can be done.
