Can I use valvoline 5w50 synthetic engine oil for my 2007 model c6 corvette? I'm located in Dubai so here Summer's may be as hot as50-53degree celcius
Kindly advise.
What Kind of Engine Oil to Use
Look for three things:
• GM4718M
This vehicle’s engine requires a special oil meeting GM Standard GM4718M. Oils meeting this standard may be identified as synthetic. However, not all synthetic oils will meet this GM standard. Use only an oil that meets GM Standard GM4718M.
Notice: Using oils that do not have the GM4718M Standard designation can cause engine damage not covered by the vehicle warranty.
• SAE 5W-30
SAE 5W-30 is best for the vehicle. These numbers on an oil container show its viscosity, or thickness.
Do not use other viscosity oils such as SAE 20W-50.
• American Petroleum Institute (API) starburst symbol
Oils meeting these requirements should have the starburst symbol on
the container. This symbol indicates that the oil has been certified by the American PetroleumInstitute (API).
This vehicle’s engine was filled at the factory with a Mobil 1® synthetic oil meeting all requirements forthis vehicle.
Substitute Engine Oil: When adding oil to maintain engine oil level, oil meeting GM Standard GM4718M might not be available. You can add substitute oil designated SAE 5W-30 with the starburst symbol at all
temperatures. Substitute oil not meeting GM Standard GM4718M should not be used for an oil change.
Do you drive at nite? What are the temperatures at nite? If it were me, I'd provide both temperatures to Mobil 1 (site below) and ask them. They are the tech experts on their oil. You could also ask Pennzoil and Valvoline.
How high do your oil temps get?
If they are normally below 240'F, the original 5W-30 will still be ok. Above that, which seems likely with your outside temps, something like 40w or 50w might be appropriate.
You are presumably not under the GM warranty any more, so their spec for 5w-30 is now a suggestion rather than a requirement.
How warm is the car when you first start it? Oil temperature at startup is also a big factor when picking the proper oil. Many C6 owners in Europe seem to use Mobil1 0w-40 without problems.
Finally, the Mobil site AORoads suggested may give you personalized advice, or they may just tell you to use what Chevrolet recommends.

Gearhead Jim is right. The thing that matters is oil temp, not air temp. Oil temp will rise a little bit as air temp rises, but usually not by much. The much more important thing to oil temp is how much horsepower you are using. Unless you are racing, oil temp will usually stay low enough for 5W30 to be the correct oil, regardless of air temp. So set your gauge display to show oil temp. Don’t worry about an occasional spike here and there if you briefly “step on it”. Look at sustained high temp. Also remember that the following numbers have some wiggle room. It’s not as though you are going to drop off the cliff if you are a few degrees one way or the other. If oil temp never exceeds 240F you should clearly stay with 5W30. You clearly shouldn’t go as heavy as 5W50 unless your oil temp is sustained over 270F for lengthy periods. You can get spirited debates going if you are in between those temps, or if you have occasional excursions, or if you are just a few degrees one way or the other. Many who occasionally go to the track elect to compromise with 5W40. But since you don’t mention racing or track, you sound like you are only concerned about air temp, and I bet if you are just doing normal street driving, even with your stated air temps of 50-53C (122-127F), I bet your oil temp in normal street driving will be below 240F, and if so, you are fine with 5W30.
ErnieN85’s comment about 20W50 versus 5W50 may be subject to misinterpretation. I agree that 5W50 is a somewhat risky oil in that it needs a lot of VI improver additive to get that wide a spread between W and normal numbers, and VI improver additive is notorious for breaking down. So if you use an oil like 5W50 with a 45 spread, you should change it often, like every 3000 miles or so. But it’s not the 5W that’s bad, it the spread of 45 between W and normal number in 5W50. A 5W30 is perfectly ok because if it’s a full synthetic, you don’t need VI improver additive to get the 25 spread of a 5W30.
I have used 0w40 M1 here in Florida since after the first oil change and I used 0w30 for that and have 76k miles with no problems. I change at 50% on the OLM. I think next summer I may go to 5w40 M1 that has more wear additives (Turbo Diesel Formula).
5w-30 Mobil 1 Extended Performance( has more high temperature additives)/A/CDelco UPF48R filter/ change every 3000 miles/ car is driven in southern Nevada desert.

On the 48 filter I'm sticking with the 64. Only a slight difference between the 2.
LDB is spot on with his analysis. I would not use a 5w-50. With that being said, if you are still worried about the 5w-30 oil in the summer heat....give the 5w-40 a try. An alternative would be the Mobil 1 Synthetic Turbo Diesel oil in 5w-40. With that oil you should be able to sleep at night.....
Yea, but we are all sitting at home going stare crazy on the computer waiting for this China virous to go away.....
I wish I was able to just sit around enough to go stir crazy, but I'm actually working. I'm in IT so I spend my day fixing people's problems so they can work too.
Friends how are you, I am happy with my second and new C4 1994 Lt1 it is very fast, here in Chile it is still in summer 34-36 degrees Celsius.
Ask if I put 10W-40, it would be a lot of damage to the engine for example a Liqui Molly.
Attentive, greetings.

0w40 M1 is the European spec oil in the corvette, same engine as the U.S. corvettes. 5w/30 was used here for fleet mileage concerns, the 0w/40 M1 is superior to the 5w30 M1. Europe has close to the same weather conditions as the U.S. I use 0w/40.... but ask a few of the oil company's for their recommendation.
