My lights are fine. Safety recalls have no time limit so I am not taking it in until I have a problem with them. I do my own service.

Since I have had major issues with every dealer who has ever seen my car, no way would I let them touch the car for an issue that
  1. Is not currently present
  2. Is VERY rare
  3. Usually gives some warning before appearing permanently
  4. Causes no significant problem if it does appear
  5. Is a recall that never expires and can be done if the fault ever does occur

If the wire does breaks and the ends disconnect, the low beam headlights go out. The high beams still work. The fog lights still work. The running lights still work. The emergency flashers and turn signals still work. The rear lights all still work. If there is even moonlight you should have no problem until you get the fog or high beams turned on. For an issue that has been seen in a couple of hundred cars out of 111,000, this is a non-issue for me. There are probably more than 200 reports here of people who took their car to a dealer for the recall and left with significant other issues. I will just keep all the letters and cards that the nanny-government forces GM to send out in my glove compartment for the next owner who might want to risk a repair in 20 years or so.

If you can stop a potential problem before it happens, why not?

A lot of us are preventing potential problems by not having it done. From what I have read the dealers are the potential problems.

What are so many here afraid of? What do you think might happen? What damage do you fear the tech might do to your car while simply installing a jumper wire? The biggest gripe I read from people who did have the recall done is "they didn't index the windows". Really? That takes like 6 seconds of your life.

I have been reading this anti-dealership paranoia for years, but the C6 forum seems to be the most paranoid. I do much of the work on our Corvette, but that which I cannot do I have to trust somebody, someplace to do it for me. Over the years I have developed a friendly relationship, built on trust, with the service dept at one of the local dealers and I will continue to use them until they do me wrong somehow. But I refuse to stress about "what could happen".

It's been done on my 05. No worries here, everything in the bay looks clean like it was babied. It all depends on the dealership, but the one I worked with had a Corvette technician on site.

I'm hesitant to have mine done since my local dealer doesn't have any experience with Corvettes among their mechanic staff. Might have it done this summer when I take a road trip down to San Antonio for a reunion of the 11th ACR - Blackhorse.

Anyone have a recommendation of a dealer in San Antonio to share where I might have it done at?

Last time I was in a dealership they broke one of the rocker panels. This is a dealership recommended by the local Corvette club and one which sells many Corvettes. Yet they can't seem to keep their mechanics from breaking cars. A member of my bowling team took his car in for an oil change and they gave it back to him without putting any oil back in. They drained the oil and drove it out to the lot. All done.

The dealership I went to prior to that was discovered sabotaging cars. The individual repairs seem to be done correctly but soon after the car would develop a new issue. That took three events to prove but how often does an oil pressure sensor on an engine just come loose and drain all the oil while driving down the highway?

I have half a dozen other dealerships that I could relate how they have done extensive damage doing a supposedly simple fix. Bottom line is I have never in 40 years found a dealership that is trustworthy 100% of the time. And the number of people I hear saying "I have a fantastic dealership who treats me great" when I know the people are being screwed is appalling. I have to shake my head and think they just haven't seen the evidence yet. Last week, my neighbor complained to me about a ticking sound in the back. She had supposedly the best dealership in the county do a brake job a month or so ago. I had also thought this dealership might not be horrible. But they had put the lug nuts on finger tight and never tightened them. Every nut on every wheel was in the process of coming off.

So unless I have an issue that requires expertise or equipment only a dealer can provide, I will NEVER go to a dealership for anything. And especially not for such a trivial issue as this one. It's called experience and learning the hard way.

My low beam went out just before I put it away for the winter. Now I have to find a dealer in the Cinci area that has a good C-6 tech.
