I've got two monitors that aren't working. Been that way for about a year or so. Do I really need to replace these things or can I just go along my way without them working. It seems such a bother to replace them, since, I can't do it myself.

Not sure other than the constant warning displayed. I've replaced only one last year on my 06 with 85,000 miles. Found an OEM replacement on Amazon for under $50 and the installing (swap) only requires that the tire be removed and bead broken.

I'd replace them if it were mine.

If you have runflats I'd replace them because it's possible you wouldn't know you had a flat.

Without them you have no way of knowing if you have pressure in the affected tires, or not. You could lose pressure in one of those tires and never know it until the tire failed, maybe at highway speed. You could injure yourself, your loved ones, or others. A potential safety issue, for sure.

Not sure about this but I think that your traction control may not function correctly if your TPS system isn't working or reading correctly. I'm sure someone will chime in about this that will have more info.

You have never had a flat...
You will know when a run flat is flat!
Especially at 55mph.

I can confirm this. The nannies will make your car act weird without working TPMS.

Discount Tire has OEM TPMS for the Vette...they have great prices too. I'd take it to go get them replaced.

You don't have to take the tire off the rim, I got the tire place to hold it down where the valve is while I replaced the sensor.

Why the hesitancy to just fix it?

I have never understood the rationale of buying a high performance car worth somewhere in the $20k-$50k range, and then balking at simple and *cheap* fixes to keep it operational.

Not trying to be a wise guy at all... Just don't understand why it's even a question.

I found this out the hard way.....be sure you are happy with how they look. I had just one replaced and didn't even think about that and I got a valve that didn't match the ones on the other wheels. Lesson learned.

I've been running with no TPMS for months. No ill effects. Just the stupid light. I'm waiting till my new wheels come in & I'll put TPMS in that set.

If you have all 4 disabled, the car will function normally in curves.

HOWEVER, if 1, 2 or 3 TPMS sensors are not functioning, you will go into "limp mode" whenever you start to push it in curves.

I had one acting up, and it shook me up when my car went all weird on me while trying to accelerate on an entrance ramp.

Absolutely true...no need to dismount or re-balance the tire in order to replace the sensor. BEZ06 has posted on this. Push the bead aside and reach in and replace...simple.

Yup, I'm going to have them done. I just found a guy, today in fact, who understands my worry about damaging my wheels. That was my main concern! He wants $80.00 a sensor, installed. Is that a good price?
Thankfully, my tires are still in great shape.

Sounds in the ball park. But you know how it goes...no matter what you pay you'll always hear someone got them cheaper.....

Amazon has the oem AC Delco sensor for my 2007 for $29.95 with free shipping...so that makes the installation pretty expensive.
