Yep. My first ('69 427/454 4SP) was wrapped around a pole by a "buddy". I've never "loaned" one out since. But the replacement - my second ('71 350/Auto) was stolen at a Mall in WPB FL. Very sad day. Had to bus it back to Key West on gray hound. LEO told me it was the third one stolen that week in that area and they were all probably in pieces and on boats out of the country.
BTW - waaay before the time of OnStar or decent Anti Theft systems.
I had a 5 year old pickup stolen once, about 20 years ago. It was taken from my yard in the middle of the night, 3 days before Christmas. The truck was locked and wasn't anything special. Never saw it again, after about 2 months of looking for it, insurance paid me about 2/3 of what it was worth.
I had a S10 Blazer stolen in the mid 90s. Found the broken glass from the drivers door where I had parked the night before. Never recovered and police said it probably ended up in Mexico.
No, but just as an FYI, if you have OnStar installed & aren't a subscriber, it can still come in helpful if your vehicle is stolen. A few years back, my wife had her old '05 Monte Carlo SS stolen in Mesquite, NV. Wasn't an OnStar subscriber at the time, but informed the investigators it was installed. The investigators contacted OnStar who located the car within minutes almost 400 miles away; it had been abandoned in a mall parking lot in Phoenix, AZ.
My first Corvette, a C4 which I purchased used and was only a few months old, got popped out of my driveway one night. So discouraging that it took me 4 years before I bought another one, this time new.
Had a MB that was such a maintenance nightmare that I used to park it unlocked with the key in the ignition. No one even thought about stealing it. Finally found a dealer that gave me a decent trade offer for it and bought a beautiful new car. Came home from work late one night and had thousands of dollars worth of my professional equipment in the trunk and I was too tired to take inside that night. Next morning the car was gone with everything that was inside. Police said it was probably in a container on the way to South America. Never had one claim with the Insurance Company. I fought them tooth and nail to recover all my losses and the day after I received a settlement check, I got a cancellation notice....thank you very much.

Hmmm.....not one story in response to the OP about a C6 being stolen. As a prior owner of a C3, I can understand how the C2 and the C3 got stolen. Not so much security equipment when those cars were built.

No, but I have had several nightmares about mine being stolen.
Hey, me too! (Four? Five?)
As for C6 thefts, I imagine the OP could Google for statistics (I did, briefly). It's difficult to determine, considering insurance fraud.
My anecdote ... someone tried to steal my 1981 Camaro. I went out one morning and the car was unlocked. I was surprised that I forgot to lock it, and then my key didn't fit the ignition because someone tried to start it with a screwdriver. My loyal Z28 refused to cooperate.

This is great info. I assume all that would be needed is the VIN?
Thanks

Never the Vette. Had 2 motorcycles stolen. Recovered the frame of the first one on the boarder of San Diego and TJ. All the parts were listed on ebay (at least I was pretty sure they were from my bike - same color, same style and posted within days after stealing).
2nd bike had Lojack. They left the bike to pick in up later. The police had located it and were fingerprinting when the guys who stole it drove back to get it. Got bike back plus they are serving jail time.
At least I know that I can trust the Lojack on the Vette.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
