The funny thing about these map updates is that if we find a place where the map has been updated, then it doesn't matter because it's a place that we already know how to navigate. If there is a place that we are not familiar with that has been updated on the new disc, then we will never know it because it's a place that we were not familiar with before. Unless we go back to one of these unfamiliar places and check it with the old disc vs the new, we will never know whether it was updated on the new disc or it was also already on the old one.
An example is when someone says that the streets in a new subdivision by his house are now on the new disc. Great, but he already knew about those streets so it doesn't matter if they are on the disc.
Got, both, the email and snail mail notice of the updated navigation disc. I'll stay with the disc that came with my 2013 GS. No reason to spend money for nothing.
I looked at the disc in my 2013 and it's copyrighted 2011. I'm thinking this 2016 disc may be the last one they make for these antiques.
I've driven places where the road was not on the map with a Garmin NAV and it complained like crazy. "Please drive to highlighted route." Over and over. Look bitc#, they moved the GD road!

How do you get the NAV to show on the HUD?
I think that the HUD must be set in Street Mode in order for the arrows to show up on it. I'm not absolutely sure because I haven't used my NAV for years. If it were a choice, I certainly would not have ordered it. Automotive electronics always get outdated...my Trans Am came with an 8-track...funny.

Yup. HUD needs to be in one of the Street modes if you want to see the turn-by-turn directions on it.
(Just for clarification, the entire Nav screen doesn't show up in the HUD, just the turn directions -- not sure if Gallup was looking for that or not)
That's a great tip, thanks. I find the OEM Nav to be a frustrating damn thing to operate.
totally.
When I first started using it, I did it by feel as it were, as I am not a normally a vehicle, or electronic manual reader.
I soon found out that it isn't as easy to operate like a Garmin or Magellan or Tom Tom.
I initially would use a destination, mixed in with way points. Sure it got me where I wanted to go, but I found it a PIA when I was in a stop over, and going out to dinner, it would want to continue the journey.
That's when I started using the Memory Points. They are the way to use the OEM Nav effectively, with a lot less frustration, as a Memory point can be selected, then once reached, go to your next Memory point for your next destination, etc.
These work very well on a planned road trip for sure.

The version 10 - 2016 updated DVD is copyrighted 2014.
and your probably correct. It will likely be the last version available for the C6 Corvettes.
That's why I made a copy of the DVD, and keeping the original DVD in pristine condition in the case.
I just did some quick checking for all those talking about the injustice of having to pay for a GM Nav update DVD:
>>Garmin wants $80 to download the map update on my dashtop GPS.*
>>Lexus wants $169 for an updated SD card.
>>BMW wants between $40 and $199
>>Ford wants $149
So, while it's true that the GM update isn't cheap (what sold by GM is??? LOL), GM is hardly alone when it comes to charging for Nav Updates and their asking price seems pretty inline with other manufacturers.
So why all the whining about GM charging for the disc when it appears that it's industry-wide? Just to complain that you don't get it for free?
* yes, I am aware that *some* Garmin units have free lifetime maps. Free updates are NOT provided on all units, so save your electrons
So they have been planning and constructing a new MAJOR loop in the Houston area for the last 12 years (Grand Parkway.) A major portion was finally opened earlier this year. Think it's on the updated nav disc? Nope...
I'll stick to my iPhone. Never had to pay for the app and all updates are free...
bought a new Kenwood, with car play, works with google. I will never have to worry about updates again. Faster updating of new or rerouted roads. I will never by a navigation again. Plus with a car play about $800.00 less for stereo.
For those who would like to know something factual about this update, it's gone back to a single disc format the way it was in 2006 when I first bought Red. The east & west of the Mississippi two-disc format was a PITA for us who cross back and forth on a daily basis. This new disc with its up-to-date points of interest is going to be good for me because in five weeks I'm leaving on back-to-back road trips that will take me 7,000 miles from StL to New York to Washington state and back.
I ordered it. I like everything in my car being updated. I understand everyone's post and I don't disagree with their choices. My 2010 had the original maps and a lot of things have change in South Carolina in the past 6 years.
totally.

I just finished a 4200 mi. trip to Calgary, Banff, Victoria, and then home. I used the Nav the way you suggested and it worked great. Thanks to your directions. It is the only way to use it. Very

Glad that the memory points made using the nav better for you.
It is the only way to use the Nav IMO, especially if the trip is pre planned with restaurants, hotels, attractions, etc. of the places that one want to see, and stop over. The great thing about using the Memory Points is that the destination can be selected while the vehicle is moving.
The OEM Nav is very powerful once it is learned. there are alot of great features in the system.
My phone works so much better than any cd driven nav.
but it's hard to get the phone to marry up to the HUD, which is the biggest plus for the OEM Nav unit. Then again, if one doesn't have a phone, then that is difficult to pull off.
The factory NAV is the biggest POS I've ever used. I read the manual, I watched all 3 twenty minute videos on the Museum web site, I updated the CD. It still can't find the road my doctors office is on even though it will show the street name when I'm driving on it! It picks absolutely bat **** crazy routes. I have to switch constantly between the route options (quick/normal/short) as none of them are optimal for an entire trip. It forgets the destination every time I stop for gas except for when it doesn't. I had the dealer replace the unit because the original would change time zones randomly. Really, time zones??? I end up using a Garmin for trips if I really want to get to some place I've never been before.
Some day I will replace the head unit with one designed in this century.
