The factory NAV is the biggest POS I've ever used. I read the manual, I watched all 3 twenty minute videos on the Museum web site, I updated the CD. It still can't find the road my doctors office is on even though it will show the street name when I'm driving on it! It picks absolutely bat **** crazy routes. I have to switch constantly between the route options (quick/normal/short) as none of them are optimal for an entire trip. It forgets the destination every time I stop for gas except for when it doesn't. I had the dealer replace the unit because the original would change time zones randomly. Really, time zones??? I end up using a Garmin for trips if I really want to get to some place I've never been before.
Some day I will replace the head unit with one designed in this century.
Wow, you're really having issues with your Nav unit. That's got to be frustrating.
The factory nav screen is certainly "last decade" with regards to pixel density and colors -- not nearly as nice to look at as the newer Navs.
The UI can be tricky until you learn it, certainly much more difficult than a Garmin, but I don't think its a design flaw that keeps routing you down the "crazy" roads, since a lot of us here on the Forum have used the unit for years without an undue amount of those issues, and actually prefer it over the Garmin for actual standard guidance operation and features. It's easily just as accurate as my Garmin, and the Garmin has given me its share of "crazy" routes and street names too, as a recent trip to Canada I had proved.
Sorry your particular nav unit is such a lemon! If mine had all your issues, I'd be looking for a replacement too.
