I have never liked the ride quality with any run flat tires. I am considering changing the OEM Goodyear F1 on my 2005 C6 coupe to a Conti DW summer tire (non run flat). Anybody have any good/bad issues with this type of change?
I did the change after 11K miles on the original GY F1's to Firestone Indy 500 non run flats and have stayed with those tires for 2 tire changes.
According to those that have changed from GY F1 RF's to any other brand of RF tires, they have been pleasantly surprised at how bad good the new RF tires are compared to the GY ones.
Going to a non RF tire has some advantages, lower cost, better and quieter ride, but it's a gamble without a spare to turn to.
I go by this motto: "I refuse to be burdened by vague worries. If something wants to worry me, it will have to make itself clear. ~Robert Brault"
I don't drive at night, but only from 07:00-3-4PM each day while doing trips.
I never think about flat tires, I carry a plug kit, compressor etc. and do lot's of long road trips. So far, I've had no mishaps, and only one tire that picked up a screw. I pulled it out, put a plug in it with the tire still on the car in the hotel parking lot. It was still on the car when I replaced it with a new set of tires.

Thank you for your insight, very helpful...takes the "worry" out of the situation...

Like a lot of other people I changed from the goodyear run flats to michelin run flats. Made a lot of difference and my goodyears only had 8,500 miles on them. Without a spare I'm afraid to go without them but many people do.
I took off the GY F1 rf's and replaced them with the Michelin PS 2's. They are run flats and are MUCH quieter than the GY's. I feel like I need the fun flat's without a spare. I have a can of flat fixer, a plug kit and a compressor in the back for emergencies.
This topic goes on and on and on.....it's all about what you want and are willing to accept. (run flats vs. non rf's) Because I REALLY did not like the harsh ride of the NRF's .... I'm willing to accept the risk and ride on NRF's.....I do carry the slime repair/inflator stuff ...but in the end would probably call for a rollback!
I have Conti DWS all seasons on two of our cars . . . excellent tires, very pleased with them. I plan to get the DW's on my Vette when my OEM GY's are done. Online reviews are good too.
I've had several cars with OEM runflats, have always replaced them with non run flats, never one regret. The improvement in ride, noise and comfort is always noticeable. I keep a can of Slime in each car but really, if you have a cell phone how bad can the really rare flat tire be?
I plan on going to the Conti's also. I only have 8K miles on my 2013 GS Garage Queen, but I'll go to the Continental Summer tire when I hit 10K on the original GY's.
This is my third Corvette, and I have replaced the run flats on each one after around 8 to 10K miles. No problems. Can of slime or air, On Star, AAA, and a cell phone, so I am OK.
Had the Conti's on my 911 wide-body and ran 300 miles with two nails in them....they held up until I could get to a Porsche dealer (I was out in the desert). I am a total Continental fan.
You will love run-flats is you ever need the protection they provide. A flat in the rain at night on an Interstate is no fun. Live with the little rougher ride and noise for the insurance.
I have over 34,000 on my Firehawks and they still look great. Grip great too, hit 1.0 on the G meter on a hard uphill right hander on hiway 1. Good in the rain too, even heavy rain.
I am a rookie Corvette owner and just replaced the GY original tires with 4K miles on them with the Mich Pilot RF. Very noticeable difference in noise and ride. I will not put anything other than RF on mine! Call me a wimp!!
There's no comparison between non-RF's & RF's when it comes to ride smoothness, road noise & handling. I changed out the GY Supercar RF's on my '05 (bought new) in '09 for Nitto Invo non-RF's & have been totally satisfied ever since. I do carry a plug kit & small compressor, but have never had to use either.
