The first time I used my key I thought it was broken, it felt like it didn’t want to pop for me and I was forcing it. Hubby tried and it popped right up. I was just too nervous, I was thinking I was going to push too hard and break it.. You have to put a little force behind it.
Does your button work?
I got use to using the key as when we bought the car the trunk motor was broken. We finally got it replaced, it is so nice using the button!
Caveman way -- remove tail light, drill big hole in the body, remembering to grunt and "ook" multiple times while drilling. With your hairy, newly-opposed thumbed hand, reach through hole and grab/pull release wire. Let go of wire. Afterwards, screech loudly, jump up and down and throw a large femur high into the air.
Walking Fully Upright way -- Call a locksmith and have him air-wedge the door window open just enough to reach in with a long wire and grab the manual door release. Then fix your keyed manual trunk release --as the release cable has likely disengaged from the lever. Promise to test it annually to avoid this kind of embarrassment again. Continue to walk upright and evolve.

You can access the trunk lock by removing the inside rear trim carpet and see if the cable is connected. Had the same problem with my 08 Vert and the cable was not connected for the key lock. I have had the car since new and the first time I tried it that was what I found.
