Inner support separation.
Bumper or qtr panel alignment not the lid.
Hinges or bump stops.
Deck lid "skin" separating from structure.
Item left in trunk pushing up part of the lid, then lid heated and warped.
Twisted or just a corner.
Inspect for stress cracks or caulking failure.
Perhaps finding a good deck lid, making a template from that lid and then compare template to your lid to find where it is warped could be the first step in determining how this happened.
Good luck.
Thanks Kenny, those were great suggestions. I know that there wasn't anything in the trunk. I did check the stops all ok. I will check the qtr panels however. No separation of skin from structure. I'll let you know as this progresses .
Are you sure that no one has been screwing (or unscrewing) with your adjustable bumper stops at each corner of the trunk lid? I can see how that could easily make it look as though your lid had warped.
Just an update to this saga. The dealer has decided that the trunk lid is warped and needs to be replaced. They are trying to get Chevrolet to cover the replacement.
Here's the latest update. GM acknowledges that the trunk panel warped. They will replace it,paint it and restripe it. the total repair is $1,500.00. they eant me to pay $533.00 and they will pick up the rest. I guess it's a good deal. I have a $ 500.00 deductible on my comprehensive, so either way i'll have to pay. the only one that wins here is Liberty Mutual insurance. However it is one less talking point when renewal time comes around......!
