Who runs a dash cam in the Corvette? If you do, what brand do you use? Finally what are the pros and cons?
Wish I could help. I did some research and it became more confusing than clear. The variables as I saw it were:
Picture clarity and breadth and depth of view
operation in severely hot environment
Does it need to be on when the car is parked?
OR,
Mounting device (if it needs to be easily removed in a parking lot, e.g.)
Storage/data transfer device/method.
I read FBs and consider them, but every unit I reviewed had high negatives.
For one thing, it can be used as evidence against you just as much as you can use it against someone else. And don't even think about erasing it if something bad happens that may end up in court ( ie. tampering with evidence).
I use a Black Box G1W-C. It has a capacitor instead of a battery so it can tolerate the heat far better. Not to mention it is so inexpensive you can afford one for each vehicle you have and not be out much if they die. Have had one in my black Excursion outside for over a year now and used one in a Focus SVT before that. Now its in my C6. If you drive like a normal person it is evidence on your side. If you drop your car off for service, it is a silent witness to goings on....I have only captured things like hitting birds and near collisions of others. Hoping it stays that way.
I have a BlackVue DR650GW-1CH mounted on the front windshield just below the rearview mirror. Works off a app that you can get for either a android or IPhone. Has built in WIFI and GPS. Go to Blackvue.com for more info and lots of videos. It has excellent video from what I experienced. I have the 128 GB micro SD card in mine. You can get a two camera setup, but I have a convertible and only use the front camera, as there is no place to mount the rear camera on the convertible top. I purchased mine from a store in Austin, Texas. Installation was easy, although I still need to hook mine up to the fuse box. I am currently running mine on the cig lighter plug setup. Its been too hot in Texas to get out in my garage to hook up the fuse box links etc.
Mobius C2 camera. Hard wired with a cap to replace the battery. Extremely discreet, very good field of view, good night quality. No bells and whistles (gps, screen, etc.). Does the looping sequence, pretty good user software (once you get used to it). Big user community because of its size, many RC guys use this cam. Does exactly what I want.
