I think that I have a screwy VIN? At least according to the 08 Service manual?

Your VIN is correct, and your service manual is also correct. The difference between the service manual VIN and the window VIN, for your car is in position 6,7,8 the digits 36W. 3 = convertible, 6= front/side restraint system W = LS3.

Your service manual indicates a two digit number in the 6th position a number 07, 67,or 87. In your case a 67 would appear on the build sheet, but your VIN will have the single digit 3. The number 67 will appear in the upper left corner of the build sheet as model 67.

In the seventh position, you were expecting the number 2 or 4 according to your service manual, but your VIN has a 6. The window VIN has either a 5 or a 6. the number 5 = frontal restraints, and the 6 = front and side restraints. I do not know why the service manual refers to this position as 2 or 4 and the VIN has a 5, or 6. Ask Tadge.

In the 8th position is the engine type. The W is the 6.2L LS3.

It is a bit confusing! I just posted a connector problem that I am having trying to install a skip shift kit. The service manual has a Tremac transmission in it but the picture does not match my transmission. But that is a whole nother story!

Thank you for the information.
