So my HUD on my 05 has started to get the shakes. Have Google and seen all the very helpful info on this site. But I've got 10 thumbs when it comes to do it yourself. So before i take my car to the dealership what can i expect to have to pay. I took it to two local shops. And they didn't want any part of the task.

You can expect a complete hosing IMO. They will take the dash apart, then replace the unit with a new one. If that doesn't add up to at least a few thousand dollars, then Bob's my uncle.
Are you sure you can turn those 10 thumbs into a few fingers. The job is not that difficult, and there are lot's of great tutorials and you tube vids of the process from start to finish including how to fix the pivot points which are probably broken, thus causing your shakes.

If you use the " CUT THE DUCT METHOD " you can have the old one out and the new one installed in 30 minutes
Dealer is going to want to remove the dash and its going to cost ......
Has anyone tried going in from the top by removing the trim ring and then the clear sheet? Just asking for my own sake before choosing the cut the duct method...

It cannot be accessed through the top. Sorry
Get a rope saw, and cutting the duct is easy peasy
