So if you don't replace it, what are you going to do? Drive around with a broken windshield? By all means replace it. Do your research and find a reputable shop to do the work.

A rock hit my windshield and cracked it. I am hesitant to have it swapped out because of water leaks and glass technician skills.
Do you guys think there should be cause for alarm, or just go ahead and have it done?
thanks!
I suppose that it is possible that a tech could improperly install a defective windshield. Heck, you might even get into an accident on your way to the glass shop. Why not look on the bright side and have your broken windshield replaced and assume everything will be OK? No need to pessimistically overthink the situation.

When it comes to our cars; that's what we do lol.
I do plan on getting it fixed; its not in my field of view (goes across a couple inches up from the bottom) so its not something that I am constantly having to look through, but it does look like hell.
I was just concerned about the rear view mirror, onstar bits, etc.

Yes, When Safelite replaced mine, they screwed up the rear view mirror mounting post. It mirror now shakes when going down the road. GM should really be proud of who ever thought to design this unique mount, it's a piece of crap that bends the three plates that fasten the mirror to the mounting post that is glued to the windshieldsmash:.

Sucks man, I just had mine replaced on an Audi A4 with the fancy windshield sensors, home link rear view mirror, by safelite. They did a good job, can't tell it's aftermarket unless you look real close.
My rear view mirror did break, so they had to get a new one which was 700$, but they ate the cost. Good company and work, I'd use them again.
Make sure you got windshield coverage, as soon as i got a new one, my car became a rock magnet I swear..
9 times out of 10 the new windshield will leak..Why. because people take no pride in their work anymore.
Simply, not true. Find a good reputable shop. Preferably not the big guys. They worry more about marketing, looking pretty and moving large quantities of glass to satisfy investors.

So because they replaced a mirror that THEY broke they are a good company?? How about finding a company that will take care of your car and the mirror without breaking it.
In my area...there was not a Safelite that would touch a corvette. I had to get an OE windshield through the dealer and had the dealer bodyshop install it. No regrets as it was done perfect with an OEM windshield.

SAFELITE replaced mine a month ago. The first Tech came to the residence and after taking things apart he realized he had the wrong windshield so I had to reschedule the the installation. I took it to the business because I think the tech was over his head. They did a good job with no leaks when washing the car. Haven't driven in any rain yet. Might take it out in hurricane Matthew to test her out. We only expect showers.

Really ... I find that hard to believe as we have 5 locations in Charlotte all with very experienced techs .......

Safelite did not design the crappy mirror mounting brackets on the Audi, Corvette or Lexus ..... we do the best we can with them and yet sometimes they break ....
but guess what ... we stand behind our stuff .........................and replace what we break
do you really think the " OTHER GUYS" don't break them .......
I've had two windshields replaced over the years because of cracks, and both of them leaked. Maybe I'm just unlucky, but I used reputable glass companies. Obviously, if the crack is more than just a chip you'll need to get it replaced regardless. At the moment, the windshield on my Subaru Forester has one quarter inch crack from a rock, and three or four visible chips maybe a 32nd of an inch in diameter. But I'm going to keep using it ... it's not dangerous or distracting, and I'm afraid of leaks.

Just go ahead and have it done ....Against all popular belief and URBAN legend a Corvette is not a hard install at all . just be sure to pick a reputable shop and not some hack off the street
There is no need to go OEM and get raped on the price , Just ask your reputable company to provide you with an AP TECH branded glass as they are the OEM manufacturer of the part ( look at the stamp at the bottom right corner of your glass )
The only difference between an OEM and an OEE (Original Equipment Equivalent) is the GM emblem on top of the AP TECH Branding ....
