I received a postcard from OnStar offering a free three year Basic service. Instructions were to push the Onstar button and follow the instructions.
After 10 attempts to get the free service and having the connection disconnect me each time , I called them. They told me that I must take my car into the GM service department hand have the OnStar hardware checked as it was not their problem, but my car's.
I think the are full of s**t, but am open to your thoughts
Anyone else have this problem?

Talked to my car dealer service rep this morning and he stated that if the hardware was not working I would not have ever gotten any connects with onStar. Diagnosis cost would be $110.00 plus tax.
I called onStar this morning using the onStar button and everything went through fine - no disconnects.
So last night the foreign "tech support supervisor" was just blowing smoke over an onStar system problem.
"take it to the dealer" is the standard fall-back when their scripts don't produce the desired results.
I once had an OnStar unit that could be 'seen' by the OnStar mothership, but wouldn't activate. OnStar created a ticket with their own TS, and said they'd call me back in a few days. They called back, and that time the activation went through, no problem.
