Default Anyone ever replace their convertible top?

Just curious, has anyone on here ever replaced their cloth top on their convertible? I'm thinking about change my black one for a tan one. I'm also probably going to replace my headliner.

Anyone ever done either of these jobs themselves? I've got the instructions for replacing the headliner and it doesn't look that bad.

This guy did it and did a nice job of documenting...it almost looks like the top is easier than the liner...

Thanks for that link. After seeing how he changed from a tan top to a black due to the marks, it has me rethinking about doing a color change. Maybe I'll stick with the black top.

I'm still planning to replace my stretched out headliner myself.

The thing that scares me about the headliner is the routing of all those strings in the back...be sure to come back and report how it goes...

Yea, I think the trick is going to be to take photos of the old headliner and where all the strings go BEFORE it is removed, and then identify each of those strings on the new headliner and make sure I fully understand and document where EACH ONE goes before I remove the old headliner.

"Stretched out" is not usually the reason that the headliner gets replaced here...would it maybe be possible to tighten it up without replacing it? Usually people replace the headliner because it gets ripped because of some problem. Just thinking out loud here because some people think the headliner is a bigger job than the top itself.

The headliner got pinched between the back of the two arms where it normally tears, and when the top when up, it stretched out the sides due to being pinched. I tried to tighten it, but it really is just going to have to be replaced. I've already got the new headliner, and I'm studying the instructions. It really doesn't look all that bad to me, but I'm an engineer and mechanic by trade, so I'm not scared of jobs that others might be. I guess I'll find out.

I'd say it depends on a couple of factors: What color is your car and interior?

Here are some photos of the new headliner. There are four strings total, two on each glare shield. One string has three eyelets on it that I assume are riveted in and will have to be drilled to to replace.
