Who has owned both of these and what is the drawback on the convertible vs coupe. I just sold my coupe and ran across a deal on a vert. It has 79k miles, 6speed, black on black Could use some feedback today to help me make a decision
I have owned both and loved each in their own right. I enjoy the ability to look up through the plexi top on the coupe, but I bought an insert to keep the sun out. The convertible goes up and down quickly and I really miss the complete openness of the 'vert, but it feels a bit tight with the top up. I am in the coupe now, and I like the room for a pair of golf clubs in the back. If I had to do it over, I would probably build another convertible...
If you purchase the vert make sure the top when opening does not hit the tonneau cover which is common. The straps (2) stretch and has to be retightened as per TSB or order new ones. I love my vert

I have owned quite a few and I favor the convertible. The coupe has more room for golf clubs etc but I usually only have to get 1 set in the back so the vert does well! I also like the profile of the convertible! The car was built to be top down! I just traded in my 03 Convertible for a 08 and a big reason for doing so was that I did not like trying to keep the tan top clean on the 03. The 08 has a black top so no problem. I does not hurt that the 08 also has 86 more horse power?
I had a 2009 base convertible and now have a 2011 GS convertible. I wouldn't go back to a coupe, as I had a 1978 years ago. I love the look of the convertible with the top down, and usually go topless whenever the weather is nice enough.....As far a ride, I don't think there would be that much difference. If you want a little more secure feeling that the top would give you if something were to happen, get a coupe. Its hard to turn one over unless your really trying to, and my 2009 was totaled in a front end collision, with no real injury to me other than my pride...
Thanks for the info. I just had a 06 blue coupe fall in my Lap. 40k miles. Only drawback is its an auto. But At least i'm not grabbing gears in a bright red one now(cop magnet)

I've owned two verts and one coupe. I prefer the vert hands-down. I think it looks better than the coupe and is quieter inside. The rear of the coupe acts like a big echo/reverb chamber. You need to learn to pack fairly light if you are traveling in a vert.

I've owned both, and while I liked the extra room in the back of the coupe, I like driving the vert much more. The only downside is that a vert has to have a roll cage for racing (other than drag racing). I really enjoy the power top and not having to worry about becoming a member of the FRC. Verts are also better for car shows as they tend to attract more attention since all of the interior can be seen.
I've have owned both.
California experience.
No sound, cold, vision differences for me.
Perhaps "cowl shake" vs coupe (at least in C4, not so much c5 c6)
Luggage room is reduced in a vert.
Future potential repair costs, fabric, headliner, pumps, seals etc.
Potential vandalism/ interior item theft.
Potential sunburn from too much top down enjoyment.
Good luck in your decision.
love my 07 vert power top was a must for me, there is more room in the trunk than most
people realize with the partition down, some people don't know that vetts have a trunk.
i like the a/c on if its hot and the heater on if its cold so see no reason to ever want a vert.
That being said il almost deaf with 2 hearing aids do a vert means u hear absolutely nothing with the top down ever.
Apart from the climate we live in - maybe it's a driver age thing?
I know I'd driven nothing but verts from 18 to around 45 - but then switched to coupes...
We have a GS coupe and a BMW 3 series hardtop convertible. The open feeling is essentially the same in both. I really like the convenience of the power operated top, but the security of a hardtop more. Do not like soft tops. So we got the GS coupe with both tops. No regrets. It's amazing how much stuff fits in the back of the coupe, and I can remove or replace the top in about 90 seconds. The vert looks great top down, not so much top up. Coupe looks cool either way. But either way ya can't go wrong.
