i've had my '08 Convert for a couple years now and have been driving it a lot more as a daily driver and with the top up it's a bear to back into parking spots as there a major blind spots so: has anyone installed a backup camera on their C6 and what is the best system to use? I have a 4LT with nav so i don't want to replace the radio to get the b/u screen type monitor ... thanks in advance ...
I was in a a similar situation with my '08. I have nav and didn't want to replace it. My solution was a hard wired camera and monitor. Overall I am very pleased. If I were to do it again I would include a noise filter for the camera to eliminate radio interference when the car is in reverse.
I also have the OEM NAV and did not want to change it out, and since lockpick 360 was no longer available for the OEM Nav to integrate a BU camera, I came up with 2 solutions, one of which is hidden in the driver sunvisor, and one that is foldable so it is hidden of sorts.
I did the foldable solution first, but then jumped in and installed the monitor in the sunvisor in place of the vanity mirror.
installed the monitor in the sunvisor in place of the vanity mirror.
great idea, what monitor did you source? I also drive a 2016 Traverse and the monitor is located on the radio face unlike my 2011 Traverse which was located in the rear view mirror, i preferred the mirror location as looking down seems awkward, so the visor would be preferrable to me
I can't recall exactly which monitor it was, but it was cheap on e-bay. 4.7" monitor. It had a stand for the monitor, but I removed the back of the monitor cover, and cut off the bubble that had the stand attached so it would sit flush inside the visor. I just taped over the hole in the back cover with duct tape.
I used the vanity mirror cover, cut the hole the size of the monitor, and attached the cover/monitor inside the sunvisor. It was one of my winter projects years ago.
I have a PDF of most of that project if interested. PM me your e-mail and I can send it to you.
