This is just a quick update on a post from last week. To the point my 05 head unit displayed update in progress please install disc. when i pushed button to do that it would not open. The radio was stuck on one station and i could not turn in down or off. had to pull fuse. to my point took it to dealer. after 2 days they said they were trying to download a new update.
well today i go by to check on my car and it ain't good. service tech tells me the whole unit is shot can not be fixed. He smiles and then ask me do i won't to replace the unit. He couldn't tell me the price and look me in the eye. he hands me the work order. i glance down at the bottom and it say's $3000.10 to replace it........you can imagine the rest..
Thats hilarious! $3000! You can get one from ebay for $300.
At this point if you go thru the dealer you are going to get a referb unit at best and not new. $3000 is
Either buy a used one (must have a dealer set it to your VIN afterward due to the "theft deterrent " they have in place)
or
Aftermarket with GPS or without. If you are going that route I suggest DDmods as they will set you up with a pretty much plug and play pre-wired radio that will drop in.

Yeah I'm going after market. But what's up with keeping the Bose speakers and using a wiring kit. I know I'll need a kit to keep my xm. At least I'll have Bluetooth now. They didn't have Bluetooth in the 05
I had my stock GPS/Bose head unit replaced with an aftermarket. I had it professionally installed so I can't comment on the specifics, but I know they used a special harness made specifically for the Bose speakers.

You can keep the Boss speakers and amp but they really are junk. The speakers look like they came from a 70's thrift store for $1.25. Even Walmart would have better quality on they're shelf.

The amplifier section of the bose system isn't located in the headunit like aftermarket ones (and most normal car designs)
You also need wiring and circuitry for the door chimes since GM decided to integrate that stuff into the stock radio.

I upgraded my entire system with a top of the line Kenwood double din Nav unit, top of the line JL Audio speakers, amp, custom sub boxes, and JL Audio subs, which are 100x better than the stock Bose garbage, and cost me less than what they're quoting you for just the stock radio.
Call Dennis at Double D Mods. He can't quote you his best prices here or on his Website, but he can put together a helluva package for you, or just a new head unit that will literally be plug and play if that's all that you want to replace, at amazing prices.

My stock unit sounds awesome! So, when it does crap out I'm calling Dennis at Double D Mods. There is a local guy or two that install alarms, car starters and radio's but you know I'd rather do it myself! I don't trust them.
Here is a stock unit from an '05 on our local CL (no it's not mine) with $100 asking. The posting is 23 days old so you could probably get it shipped to you for $100 or less. Just another option for you!

Best Buy has some decent units, with XM, that you can get installed for less than $500.

Dennis will prewire the harness for any head unit you get from him so all you have to do is plug it into the same plugs the stock unit was plugged into. All of your normal functionality will be there; just let him know that you have XM and want Bluetooth functionality.

Run new wire for the six new speakers you need to install. Leave the Bose amp in place as there is no need to remove it. Buy the plug-n-play harness, along with everything else from Dennis and you are good to go with a new amp. System will sound amazing!!!
