Default What to do?

Hey guys, I'm approaching 100,000 miles on my LS3. Within the month, I will be getting my car cammed at LG. I try tochange my oil every 3,000 miles. My question is, are there any extra precautions I should take to keep my car and motor in pristine condition at this point in its life? Change certain fluids, belts etc... Thanks for any information.

I would keep doing what you have been doing. You made it 100,000 miles so if you keep doing it, you should make it to 200,000.

100k miles is just broken in on a LS engine. Just drive it and don't worry about it.

Also, stop changing your oil every 3k miles. It's not necessary with today's oils and engines. Use the indicator on the DIC to determine when the car is ready for an oil change.

Time for coolant change, plugs and wires. Trans and diff fluid ?

I'm at 180,000 on my 07. Change oil when OLM hits 50%. On 3rd set of plugs and second set of wires.

Nice to see someone racking up the miles and enjoying the car! My truck is approaching 247,000. I use whatever oil is on sale and change it every 5k. The key I think is limit short trips, limit the stop and starts, and go very easy in cold weather, and when the car is cold.

At 144,000 on my 2008. Change the oil when the dic indicates less than 5%, which is typically around 11,000 miles. Coolant changed once and spark plugs at 100,000.

Agree that you should stop changing your oil every 3000 miles. Completely unnecessary and will not lead to extended engine life. The engineers that designed the engine knew what they were doing when they set the algorithm in the computer for calculating engine oil life remaining.

Use a torque wrench on all the suspension, x-members etc. to ensure all is in spec and tight.

In other words, everything you can check that has a bolt, nut or screw...check it.
Including fenders for example.

Make sure the front of the radiator is clear of debris.

One could also check all the rubber bushings and mounts.
I have found rear sway bar bushings as a wear item.

That's my add to the list.

Have fun.

I'm curious about the cammed part. Is LG doing mods on the heads as well?

No head work, unfortunately, but I wish.

I'd also say to keep doing what you have been. While I haven't had to change the oil on my '07 yet (just bought it in October and have only put 700 miles on it due to weather), I do change the oil (Mobil-1 synthetic) in our Subaru Outback at about 5K miles every time. I also change to oil filter and so far, the engine and oil have stayed nice and clean. I will probably do this with the C6 when it's time to do the oil changes.

Steve

well, have you been driving the begisus out of it like you will when you cam it and run all those hi-RPMs?

That might account for a big difference: Lots of hard cycles on reciprocating parts.

The only reason to change at less than the OLM says is if you reach the one year mark before the OLM says 0%, but with your miles/year, this is not going to be a problem.
