i purchased a 2006 corvette 5 months ago, the dealership keeps telling me i need to bring it in for a 60,000 recommended scheduled service. they told my wife the services would cost $1700.00 . that is not including any brake service that this would be an extra charge of $600 to $1200. my oil life still shows 48%. i have only put 1950 miles on it in 5 months. what are the things i need to check or service myself.
Thanks,
Jayme Burdine
I would never go back to that dealership. Did you buy the car from them? If so, and if this stuff was so important, why didn't they do it before you purchased the car.
Look at your 2006 owner's manual, pages 6-5 through 6-8. It will tell you what should be serviced and when. None of what you mentioned is scheduled for 60,000 miles.
It costs me $65 to have the dealer where I trade to change the oil & filter. They also check 24 other things for no extra charge. Of course, it probably helps that I've bought 5 Corvettes from them in the last 35 years.

$65 sounds reasonable, My dealer once charged me $134 !! that's why I do my own now ...
I would NOT go there, under any circumstances. I just can't image what kind of service for regular maintenance would cost $1700. Maybe new tires, brakes, change all fluids...all that still shouldn't be $1700. Like was previously said...check the maintenance schedule in your owners manual. Most of it is very simple and easy to do.
Dealers are out to make a profit from unsuspecting people.
I have realized that 90% of people fall into this category.
To the OP, I have an 07 with over 75k miles, I have only done oil changes, coolant drain/refill, changed tires twice - they are just trying to milk you - you should not even be visiting a stealership for post-warranty work.
I have original brakes/rotors/plugs and it runs like a charm

There was a dealership around here, DFW, that was well known for selling Corvettes. They pushed throttle body cleaning at $500. Spay a little carb cleaner on the TB and wipe it off.... $500 please.
No wonder they are no longer in business.
OP I would change all fluids. Check brakes, plugs and belts if you haven't already done so. I do this to every used car. Much easier to do it when I want than when something goes wrong.
Have some fun with the Service guy. take your manual in with you and ask him to show you what they are going to do that is on the scheduled maintenance list. see if you can get him to back pedal and squirm a little as you mention your no star internet review of his company with his name to be included in the review. go get em
