Hi, I just purchased an '07 coupe base model. When trying to use the navigation feature, it prompted me to insert the 'map dvd' which I don't have. Can you tell me where I can obtain this? I found some 'map update' dvd's, but didn't want to spend $150+ dollars on it, unsure if it would work since I didn't have a current map on my unit. Can anyone advise? Might be a stupid question, but I'm clueless. Thanks!
Just spend $100 on a Garmin 52LM with free lifetime map updates. I made a holder for my Garmin so it would sit in the forward cup holder, just in front on the cigarette lighter. No messy cords hanging down from a windshield mounted unit.
The Garmin outshines the factory NAV ten times over.

The factory Nav head unit was the first thing to go when I bought my 08 vert, and I don't regret it a bit. Now I have a Kenwood Nav unit that updates itself via my home Wi-Fi, or can do the same via the Wi-Fi hotspot I create with my phone. I'd suggest you give Dennis at Double D Mods a call and talk to him about a much needed upgrade.

All map data comes from the actual DVD, so no worries there.
If you do upgrade to a new head unit and replace the factory one, you will loose the turn by turn instructions that is displayed on the HUD, which I fine a nice feature.
If you do not need the latest updated map, you should fine a disc at a reasonable cost.
BTW Congrats on your new ride...
The nav works fine and is convenient with the turns in the heads up display.
You've already gotten the answer, ebay. I just sold a version 5 for 50 bucks and a version 9.0 for $100 on ebay. I have the latest 10.0 version now purchased from gm rep for $179. Personally if I were going to pay 100 for an older version, I'd add 79 and get the latest road changes and POIs. The latest version is already over a year old and it might be the last one out on the C6. (maybe not, gm doesn't know).
The version 5 can be had cheaper, but it has two disks, one for east and one for west, the later versions have all on one disk. Any will work on your car, the updates are only on maps and not the nav software. Just get the version that includes the 05-13 C6 among other cars and it'll work.
Here's what you're looking for if you want a version 9 like I sold. The 10.0 looks the same but the version on the right side will be visible.

The factory nav is user hostile. By that I mean there is a steep learning curve for new users. It is very non-intuitive. But, like some other hard to learn software, it is far more capable than the after market units. Personally I use up to 3 when traveling. The factory nav, a Garmin, and Google maps on an IPhone. All use the same maps so differences are in routing. The factory nav can give you hundreds of different routes for the same trip if you want to take the time to learn how to use all the features. The IPhone is by far the easiest by just telling Siri "Directions to xxx" and you get one route - take it or leave it. The Garmin is in the middle as far as ease of use and routing.
But my favorite is the factory unit because I took the time to learn how to use it ( http://www.theredlion.us/Using%20the%20Corvette%20navigation.htm ) ) and it is the only nav made that will display on the HUD. No looking around inside the car for the next turn. Always keep your eyes on the road.

Thanks for the link!
I'm torn between keeping the original head unit in my 'new' '06 and upgrading to a new system. The audio quality provided by the OEM Bose system is mediocre at best (being generous) and the lack of Bluetooth/hands free phone and USB is a big disappointment, but I do like the HUD directions from the Nav.
I'm expecting updated (2016) Nav disc to arrive early next week, and am going to give the OEM system one more shot to earn a position on the team as I research phone connectivity and sound quality improvement (ie., replacement speakers) options. If that doesn't work out, a replacement aftermarket HU with Nav will be ordered...

I agree that Bose blows and always has in the Corvette. But I've been traveling with some type of nav since 1997 and can't live without it. Nav is more important to me than sound and not looking around inside the car is more important than saving a few clicks or taking the long way because that is what everyone else does. YMMV.
