My shifter cable broke when I went to put the car in park in the garage and I was planning to try and replace itr myself. Well we are in the middle of a remodel, and finding the time is next to impossible. Has anyone had their replace at either a private shop or a dealership and what can I expect to pay. I know the new cable can be purchased for less then $50., it is the labor cost that scare me.
Having never done that job, I can only comment that $400 worth of labor is around four hours and the descriptions of the job here on the forum don't sound like four hours of work. Especially if you're a professional and know where you're going from the start and where all the snaps and detent tabs are.

Fours hours sounds right to me. After all the exhaust has to be dropped, then the tunnel plate with its million bolts. Center console removed. Shifter removed so you can get at the bushing, then re-route the new cable and reassemble everything.
Ha, my buddy is going to replace mine this upcoming week (I'm too old, don't care about doing this crap anymore).
I have printed out instructions from various threads here, a PDF, and will give him a link for a video. Whatever I can do to keep the cost down, but I will post back here how long it took. He has done it before on a C6.

I was going to do it myself, but after reading about it, I just decided that laying on my back with the car on jack-stands was not going to work with a 71 year old body. I do most of the work myself, but this sounded just a little to much without a lift.
Mine snapped on a road trip last year and thank god it was in Kansas City and not in the middle of no where. I think it cost me about $600 to have it fixed at a Chevy dealership.
