Default Manual Trans Fluid Question

Hey Guys,

I was wondering how often do you change your trans fluid, and do you change it or just top it off?

I wanna change it because on high rpm's I have a hard time shifting to forth, but as for regular driving, it's fine...

Manual transmission fluid is fill for life (as per Tremec engineering) but I change mine every 6 years or 50,000 miles. Kinda just because of my OCD.

I changed my fluid at 35,000 miles. Glad I did. The fluid was turning into a dark brown color. I like a nice pink in my girl.

Mine was changed at 75,000 and it needed it bad , it was black... After the fluid change the trans shifted much smoother and the problem I had with it going into second gear when cold disappeared... Change it out!!!......WW

Be sure to use fluid compatible with Dexron III and not Dexron VI.

I have no basis to question the hours of engineering development/testing from GM/Tremec engineers by switching to some "boutique" oil company's alternative. GM/Tremec have "skin" in the game. They have to warranty these units, alternative fluid sources do not.

I'm not saying there is necessarily anything bad about an alternative choice, as I simply don't know, but a risk I am unwilling to take; nor, is there anything I can find to "fix" in the trans and diff, so no reason to experiment either.

I have 117K on mine and I have used both the GM fluid and Penzol Dexron VI (6) which is the same as the GM fluid. Got the Penzol from an online order through PEP Boys. I generally change mine every 50K even though as stated it is filled for life by the factory.
