Default Flat Tire Alert!

As I drove away from work and entered the highway my 2006 C6 coupe dinged and said "right front tire is flat! Reduced handling! Do not Exceed 55 MPH." I freaked and pulled off next exit. Turned off car got out and wheel and tire looked fine. Restarted car and ran through checks and tire showed 30 LBS pressure. Drove car home, Hasn't happened again in last two weeks including a FOUR HUNDRED MILE ROAD TRIP. Just a glitch? Or do I need a tire shop to check it out? Probably should have had it checked before road trip but was on a Vacation High and just hoped it wouldn't fail.

Probably just a glitch, especially if you measured 30 PSI with a manual gauge. I had the same message recently and went to check with a manual tire gauge which was a blessing since it confirmed my run flat was nearly flat and as an added bonus when I checked the tire pressure the wheel was in a position so that I looked directly at a screw stuck in my tread.

I'd agree a glitch.

You confirmed the tire pressures with a manual gauge....no issue/ false alarm then.

Yet those TPMS sensors are battery operated.
Some say a 10 year life.
Your 2006 is at that estimated limit.

Wait for total failure, replace one by one or replace all four with mount and balance maybe a $500 maintenance cost.

Are your sensors original?

I would probably get it replaced if the TPMS is original since it is at end of life. If they have been replaced already in the last few years it is likely a one time glitch. If you are approaching the time for a new set of tires just get them all changed at that point.

Although not likely with a Corvette, we can do side to side rotation with most tires, so a shop may do a side to side rotation and not rematch sensors so the problem tire exists just not at the location noted. Something to double check when a problem shows up on the road. I have TPMS on every vehicle except my HD pickup but they still need to be double checked with a good mechanical gauge when a questionable event occurs.

Happened to me and the DIC told me which tire, the RR. I checked it and it was fine, TPMS weren't calibrated at the tire shop right. It was the LR.

Shortly after I bought my used 2011 GS I also got the flat tire message with no flat tire. A glitch I suppose although about 2 months later I needed a new ECM.

I always carried a manual gauge around, mainly because the TPMS was not accurate in Utah where we are 4300 ft up to start with.

Mine did it last week. I could tell the tire was not flat, or even very low, so drove home. Next day, all tires registered 31/32.

TPMS sensors are low battery. Time to order some new ones. No big deal.

And apparently there's a way for a tool to ck battery life remaining. Just learned that in another thread.

Op didn't say he checked the tire pressure with a manual gauge. He said he "started car and ran through checks. Tire showed 30 lbs pressure". I agree though that the sensor could have a battery about to fail.
