HUD Problem
The dealer says the whole dashboard has to come out (seats, console, steering wheel, etc). Big labor, big bucks.
Is there anything else to try? My extended warranty ran out last summer, of course.
I would recommend rolling down your windows, opening your doors and popping the hatch, then disconnect the battery (may not be necessary, but better safe than sorry...)
The cluster is easy to pull out, just be careful with the clips and place it where it won't get scratched.
Next step is the sketchy one, start with a commando chainsaw
(linked here: )
There's an air duct directly between you and the HUD, as far to the right as you can, cut that air duct with the chainsaw. (sounds scetchy, but its not that bad, its soft plastic and cuts easily)
Then you can remove the duct and access the two bolts that hold down the HUD. Remove the bolts, pull the HUD, disassemble, fix the mirror mounts (they typically rust out from moisture)(they can be rescued with hot glue).
It takes a little effort to get it back into place, but once it sets down on the bolts, you're golden.
Then just duct tape (as this is by definition a duct, I think its an appropriate use) to secure the duct and insure a decent seal. The just reinstall the cluster and trim, reconnect the battery and whalla, you're done.
