Default oil change

I'm tired of changing my own oil and dealing with the mess.when I spilled 10 quarts from my Duramax.....it was the last straw. anyone use Jiffy lube for their Vette? or a better while you wait option in San Diego?

I would not use jiffy lube. I went there once they gave me back my car ready to go, except minus the drain plug and the oil that leaked out.

Where ever you do take it I also suggest you bring a set of pucks and request that they use them when they put your car on the lift. Otherwise you'll get some body deformation behind the front tires.

Jiffy Lube, no thanks, but if you do I would not let them fill the oil with bulk out of a drum, just me, make them show you the container and watch them work

How do you spill 10 quarts?

I've been changing my own oil for 50 years and will continue until I'm no longer able, although that's about all I can do anymore (or want to do)

I got my dealer to change mine. Charged me $65 and he made 27 checks of other things about the car while I waited. Usually took about an hour.

I buy the filter and oil and take it to my local go fast shop and they charge me another 20 bucks to do it. I trust them implicitly and I'm out for under $60.....

I'd definitely stay away from Jiffy Lube or any of the "quick oil change" shops - - they pay basically minimum wage to their techs. I've heard horror stories about our local Jiffy Lube (forgetting to put oil in an engine after draining out the old oil, leaving the drain plug loose, etc). It cost a friend of mine an engine.

If you'd rather not do it yourself, go to a good shop, pay a bit more, and have the peace of mind that things were done correctly.

so long as you get the right oil and filter, why would it matter?

Yes, get to know the shops and technicians and go where you have confidence. I use a local oil change place for all my cars and minor maintenance. Heck, they changed the V6 timing belt on my Trooper for $400.

On the other hand I had bad luck with the Walmart across the street regarding my Honda Accord. Definitely check the oil and maintenance after the work is done, especially at the big box stores.

Jiffy Lube...HELL NO! I do it myself but I would actually go to the stealership instead of JL.

I think you would be better off in the long run by finding a local mechanic and start a relationship with him by getting your oil changed there. You will eventually need other repairs and maintenance done to your Vette and this would be a good way to find a local shop that you can trust.

It probably helps that my wife & I have bought 14 vehicles, including 5 Corvettes, from that dealer since he bought that dealership 37 years ago.

Default Oil change

It matters. I took my C6 to my quick change that does all my other vehicles for all oil service etcs. I asked them how much for a mobile one oil change, and he quoted me a price based on 8 quarts of oil. I tell him it's 6 quarts not 8 and he is adamant about using 8 quarts. He claims his system is always right. So I drive away. My car actually used 5.5 cts. What do you think happens when someone puts 8 quart of oil in your six court system, MOTOR Failure!

I'll be doing mine myself from now on!

OR . . . he was unknowingly quoting a dry sump.

OR . . . they could just bill the customer for the 8 quarts (in a 5.5 q car) and not put it in; most people wouldn't notice. Although that seems like a pretty desperate way to screw somebody.

I use a local shop called Kwik Kar. Oil change and minor maintenance. Brakes, timing belts, remove and replace stuff. And no lift, just drive it over the pit.

I am not sure why all the hate for JL and quick change joints. I've only been screwed around once at Walmart. Check the work if you aren't convinced. Don't go back if you get screwed around. Get to know the manager and some of the guys. If you don't know anyone each time, move on.

Like any service business, there are no hard and fast rules. But dealers are at the bottom of my list. Expensive, out of the way and poor experiences. I'd much rather go to JL than get a dealer oil change.

This is how I do it. I never make a huge mess. Biggest "mess" is getting the oil filter off, but as long as it's above your waste container, it's all good.
