Yep I agree , I need to work on my driver mod ... we are getting better every week
Don't forget I am on run flats also ......
No excuse but its well known that our track is not prepped well on Friday night test and tune , they do a better job on Saturday bracket races
I turned TC off two weeks ago and scared the crap out of myself ... got it out of the hole pretty good but then all hell let loose as the engine came on the powerband , tried to pedal it but it was to late to save the run .....
I don't want to put it into the wall so I am just going save myself a lot of trouble and wait to get drag radials before i turn off TC again ....
I am just doing this for fun and running 12- 12.2 with my grocery getter is still a bunch of fun lol

That's how it always starts and then it becomes an addiction. There is a direct relationship between the thickness of your wallet and the ET/speed of your car.
Indeed, especially idiot drivers who turn off their traction control.

most wrecks are the owners fault they just cant drive
Short wheel base cars with IRS can get away fast, "snap" and send you a direction you dont want to go faster than most can react to it
I save that stuff for a sold axle longer wheelbase car.

Oh every time the delivery man shows up my wife asks "how much"?
I tell her HOXXOH says I need this
If I can get a 11.999 out of it i will really be a happy camper
More brilliance published here. Well I hope people who embrace articles like this are happy with paying the same or more for much less product. Why would you even publish this non sense? Why is this promoted? Simple answer to your question. NO... Many people have much more HP and can drive it just fine. There is a reason Corvette upped there game, and it was to reach a younger fan base who now could afford them, not just old people. GAWD I hope nobody is listening to articles like this. Who is "we've always felt 200hp is enough"? Certainly not car people and are definitely likely to have a negative impact on the hobby. Stick to the old cars if you like driving a slow car hard!
I had the same issues, I just installed some Nitto NT05R 305/35/19 on the rear and the wheel spin is gone. I have not gone to the track yet, I plan on it in August. But as far as wheel spin, its gone, the NITTO NT05R tires hook baby, highly suggest you try, not run flats but they grip!
I read somewhere in this thread taking radial tires through the water for a burnout on a dragstrip. Big no-no...completely pointless and tracks water onto the staging box. No matter how much one tries to "heat up" radials it's not going to make much, if any difference. Completely different compound as a drag radial or true slick. I always shook my head at those who tracked water onto the strip with their radials...and I'm actually amazed there's track officials that still allow it.
Far as the OP-those goodyear tires are junk for straight line acceleration even at 100% tread. I had Michelin Pilot supersports (M6 with z51 gearbox) and on a warm day on the street, light launch and getting into it (with T/C off) it would hook about halfway through 2nd gear. Dumping it in 1st is an automatic loss of traction with any radial tire, even on the strip where there's lanes of sticky rubber.
Reading through this thread really makes me miss drag racing and my 'vette...

Yeah.. thats what I figured. I think im going to get FireHawk Indy 500 are what I think Im getting. Cheap and great reviews.. $600 for all 4 on tirerack.
$600 for all 4??? One of my rear tires was $550...just ONE!!! And I can spin them at will...lol, 1st, 2nd, 3rd. Its just crazy, I mine doesn't make that much hp compared to a lot of folks on here.

They were 650 actually. But they were on back order for like 6 weeks. So I went up to The Conti's Extreme Contact Spots for 850 for all 4. Love them.
I have always used Bridgestone RE-11's (now discontinued) on my GS. From 15mph and up in warm weather I can stomp the gas in 1st gear and dead hook. Not so when I had the oem tires from when the car was new.
Cooler nights in south east michagin I can really feel my ZP super sports losing grip .
60 degrees vs 80 big difference . Also I think cooler air helps .
Just got a set of these for street driving hoping they hook decently
BFGoodrich G-Force Sport Comp 2 i have heard they hook good on street.
I will get me some drag radials for track.

NITTO NT05R serious traction
+1 for NT05R. I was running these for a while and never had traction issues again. My car is bone stock of course.
I switched to regular NT05's after I burned through the R's. They do very well for a non drag radial tire. Wheel spin in 1st is pretty minimal and very controllable. They are 1000 light years ahead of the crappy run-flats that would spin easily in 2nd gear.
I can confirm through a friend the stock Eagle's are not that great a tire, he had more issues with them the older they get as the rubber becomes harder with age. We had long discussions about this as my car had the stock SuperCar tires found on the Z-51 equipped cars which held much better. My new car in 2012 also had the SuperCar tires and on track when warmed would consistently hit 1g in the turns. Lots of advantages to running run flats, and run flats.
I switched to Michelin's when it was time to upgrade tires on both my '08 and '12, they were better in the turns, and with the '12, (comparing new tire to new tire) I went from about 1.03 (GY) to 1.15 (PSS) and others have gone higher. They were not any quieter, either RF's or non RF's, as similar newer tires will always be quieter than older tires in general. Some report other brands being much quieter but I don't have experience with those and I am more interested in traction.
These motors have a lot of torque and the cars are relatively light weight, so it pays to have respect for the throttle and not treat it as an "on - off" switch.
I had this problem just today. The first day of rain in months. I pulled off a side street onto another one and I could hear the inside tire slip and the car shifted a little to the right as it rolled over on teh sidewalls. I slowed back down for the rest of my drive in to work.
Of course, this was in a 4,500# Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with the 285 hp Pentastar Engine
I too had difficulty with the stock Goodyear tires in rain on my C6. Things improved with the Michelin PS A/S 3's. And yes, WOT in the C6 equates to wheel spin into second gear.
I don't think any street tire is gonna bite on our streets with these LS engines under the hood. Probably why you see alot of Vets off the road and into trees. Car gets away from you FAST.
It was hard enough getting bite with my 69 Camaro on the track with 14x32 medium compound drag slicks on a PREPPED starting line. And it was only about 550HP small block 355.
I have experienced the opposite. I have a 2012 GS M6 with Continental Extremes. (I bought it used with them so I've got nothing to compare it against.)
I would have to try very hard to break the rears loose. Just flooring it from a standstill it will grip and not spin at all.
I'm coming from a 2012 Mustang GT that required great care as it would spin the tires in first and second without any issue. I've wondered at times if it's under powered or if the tires are just that good. Of course my mustang had the stock 235s on it and 3.73 gears so that's a huge difference. I think the GS is geared for top speed/cruising and not acceleration. Wondering if anyone else can chime in on the Continental Extremes.
