Plasti dip wheels
I have a black 05 Z51 and think I want to plasti-dip my wheels gloss black. Could some one who has done it post some pictures, please.
Is there a gloss black or only mate black finish?

Kindof a crappy picture of my car from a while ago when I dipped the stock rims. I really liked it. The gloss wasn't clear coat quality like your fenders, but it was still a decent attempt for ~$6.

What they said about the "gloss" part
I used Glossifier, about 2 heavy coats, it gives a little reflectiveness but gloss shine is not what it should be called, it aint!
I did it over my chromies as shown, I like the look but some will criticize you for it, who cares huh
If nothing else it previews what your car will look like with going "black", I was going to but a set but very satisfied with what I have

I don't have any pics of it but I had my stockers plasti-dipped black before I got my TSW's. I used the glossifier as well.
Black by itself will result in a flat texture, pretty similar to primer. The glossifier helps but it is truly minimal. I would say the glossifier took it from flat to a semi-flat/matte texture at best. In the end it still looked like a spray paint job to me and I was not happy. Also, the glossifier seems to fade pretty quickly.

I think you're right, in some cases. When they are kept up with it's hard to tell that they are dipped. But when people go matte black and let brake dust build up on them...they look like **** lol

In retrospect, if I was dead set on keeping my stockers I would have them powder coated or hydro dipped. I did feel pretty ghetto having plasti dipped rims, even more so on a Corvette.

To each their own my friend. This was an inexpensive route for me to see if I liked having black wheels on my car. Served it's purpose for a year, then I bought a new set of wheels. I think the best part about the dip is you can take it off if it's not what you were hoping for.

You are absolutely right, it serves its purpose and easily undone. I couldn't stand the silver / chrome look on my car and it got me by until I got my rims.

Haha no worries! I was just making sure others know that if they are on a tight budget and want to change up the look of their car, that this is a way to do that. I was 22 when I bought my vette, and didn't have an extra $1500 laying around for new wheels, but I did have a few cans of dip lol.

Once again you add you negative 2 cents trying to be funny, the original question was not for you chrome loving wheel guy's but for those who have plasti - dip wheels and how they look.

No, just correcting your erroneous statement. Black wheels are not "modern" as they've been around as long as cars have.

This thread is not chrome vs black wheels and yes we all know black steel wheels have been around for decades. I was simply saying most modern super cars / performance cars are coming from the factory without chrome wheels. Your original comments add nothing to this thread, are you just mumbling with your fingers?

I dipped mine just to see how I liked the look on my car. As others have said, they do get dirty almost immediately after being cleaned. I had no intentions of them being permanent so they served their purpose.

We did my son's Focus ST. As others have said not very glossy and look dirty almost immediately. But it is a inexpensive way to see if you like black wheels that does no harm to the wheel.
I personally do not like the plasti dip look, except that anthrantite (sp) looked pretty sweet on my son's motorcycle.
