Installed new Kenwood HU with a pioneer backup camera. Camera works great some times but intermittently when I put it into reverse, the guide lines will appear on the monitor but the rear view camera doesn't show a picture. Any ideas?

I would start by checking the power lead to the camera. I sounds like the camera is not always getting a "turn on" signal.

That makes sense. Now that I think about this, I think the guides are a function of the head unit not the camera. So if the're coming on it would lead me to think the problem is with the Camera.

Exactly what I was thinking. I would start with a multimeter at the camera and work my way up to the HU.
Correct, the head unit is getting the signal from the reverse wire up front but the camera is not turning on. Check the connection to the camera in the back. I had a bad camera when I first installed mine, had to swap it out.
What power did you connect your camera to? I spliced into the reverse lights and haven't had an issue. But like some say could be a bad camera as well.
