In 2013 at about 2,600 miles I got a great deal on a set of Bridgestone AS RFs, so I sold my OEM GYs to a local Corvette owner who had a 2005 Vette with only 5,000 miles but whose original GY RFs suffered from dry-rot being 8 years old.

I've been very happy with the ride and noise quality of the Bridgestones compared to the GYs, and even though they're RFs, I carry a compressor that came with my wife's leased Caddy (turned in back in 2014--so, don't rat me out to the leasing company!)

Depending on how you plan on driving the car--aggressively, daily driver, weekend fun car, etc.--you'll find different brands and models of tires to suit your needs and pocketbook. Like so many things, a tire purchase will be a compromise in most cases. However, RFs do possibly offer more "emotional security" and "emotional safety" if nothing else. Those "qualities" make RFs right for me. My tires are more than capable of providing a higher level of performance than I'll ever need.

I have had 2 Vettes, a 2003 C5 and now my 2013 C6. I kept run flats on both cars. I did not go back to the goodyears but went with the Michelin run flats. So much quieter, smoother ride and better gas milage. When on vacation and getting caught in rain the Michelins are so much better than the goodyears.

I just this month replaced my goodyears with the Michelin Pilot Sport A?S ZP. I had 30K on the goodyears, they were loud and followed every grove in the road. I will always have runflats!!!

When I put new tires on after purchasing my '08, I went with non run flats. I have had one nail and have a compressor and repair kit in the back. Much quieter.

If you go with non run-flats you will probably notice a drop and gas mileage

So how do you repair a gash in the side wall of a non runflat tire if you're out in the middle of nowhere with no phone service?

I have Goodyear rf with 20k miles that look new. When I replace them, I will replace with rf.
I have chrome wheels on my c6 which was a $1,800 option. I will not chance ruining these wheels in case I get a flat and can’t pull over.

Run flats only have one pro and that is the run-flat part.

Regular tires get you better traction, noise reduction, more miles before going bald, more comfort since they are not as stiff, cost far less and are more readily available.

It was night and day after I made the switch. My car on run flats would spin all the way through second gear. With regular tires it did this weird thing I had never experienced. It moved forward instead of sideways

Buy run flats if you are a person that says "what if" a lot. Buy regular tires if you want to enjoy your car more.

Stuff is fantastic and stays liquid and balances your tires as the stuff flows where the imbalance is. It's called rideon, check out the reviews and utube vids on it. Safe for the tpms too as it stays in center of tire. I've been using it for years and I haven't had a flat in years.
Do you put this stuff in your Vette tires to run all the time, or is it just for blowout repair? If you use it for a blowout, don't you still have to have an air source to inflate it on the road? The reviews look good with some people even saying that the tire repaired with the Rideon never has to be removed and repaired afterwards. Is that true? I'm looking for something to carry in my Vette, but the choices seem overwhelming.

I have replaced the original GY run-flats (horrible tires as many have noted) with Michelin "ZP" run-flats on both of my C6 Vettes and couldn't be happier. The tire noise reduction & ride improvement are well worth the extra cost vs. non-RF tires and I don't want to be stuck on the side of the road with a flat if I don't have to be (this is especially true if my wife happened to be in the car with me!!).
Enjoy,

That's the route in going with my 13 GS... Can't wait to dump the horrible Goodyear run craps. Already balding at 10k miles so I need an alignment as well.

So, how do you repair a gash in the sidewall of a run-flat?
I'm pretty sure a gash in the side-wall is not going to be driveable in either situation.

Default Run flat tire construction

It is my understanding the run flats have a hard rubber core that will support the car for loss of air. Even a slashed side wall.

When I had my Z06, I replaced the run-flats with regular tires.
Omg what a difference! So smooth and cushiony
Felt like I was riding on cobblestone with the run-flats.
When its time to replace tires on my ZR1, it will not be run-flats!!!
