It's a very easy job if you have basic tools.
You must know some guys that have a basic mechanical ability that can install it for you?
Again, it takes less than 30 minutes to do.
BTW, that remanufactured alternator from AutoZone does have a short warranty, so if you get a bad one, you can always give it back to them for another.
I would still opt for the new alternator.

It would be easiest to get the battery charged up (no need to remove it from the car).
Then drive to the nearest AutoZone or Anvanced Auto.
They will do a quick FREE test to see if you really do have a bad alternator, or a battery that is bad.
With a fully charged battery, you can drive the car for at least enough time to get it to AutoZone ... Do this in the daytime so you are not using your headlights.

I understand your not wanting to try to replace it yourself, and if you've never done it before or have someone to show you how I wouldn't attempt it, mechanical work isn't for everyone, and if you don't know what you're doing you could screw something up. To bad you're probably not close to me, I'd come over and do it or show you how to do it for nothing.

Who told you that you need a new alternator?
My bet is that you need a new battery.

If you can't start the car with jumper cables, that is NOT an indication of a bad alternator.
But, if the battery has a shorted cell in it, a jumper cable start will not work

He said "it might be the alternator"
Did he actually test the alternator output current with the engine running?

Replacing an alternator is one of the more simpler jobs you can do on a vehicle. There maybe some video's out there that show you how but it's still better if it's someone that's replaced one before, that way you know for sure it was done right. I agree $770 is way out of line for this job, for a 1/2 hour job that would put their labor at about $1200 an hour if they installed a replacement from Auto Zone

I just hate to see you spend a bunch of cash on an alternator ... and then find out that it didn't fix your problem.

My bet is that you have a bad wire connection at the starter motor ... (starter motor not get electrical power in order to spin the engine)

It could be either a bad battery or a bad alternator or both, that's why they need to be tested, to find out for sure what the issue is.
