Default Securing Trunk

If I put the top down then park in a public area how can I prevent someone from just pushing the trunk release button and swiping my stuff?

I don't believe it works unless the fob is detected.

Really? Awesome. I'll have to test that. Thanks!

On the C6, anyone can reach in and pop the trunk/hatch. It will set the alarm off, however.

You would think that button would be deactivated with the doors locked.

I was surprised that someone could just reach in with the top off and take your NAV DVD. I thought the screen button would be deactivated when the doors were locked.

You would think so.

Seems like a logical thing to engineer into the car. They did deactivate the trunk/hatch release as well as the glove box in the C7 when locked. Must have gotten enough complaints? The Nav screen is still able to be lowered unless in Valet Mode; it isn't automatically disabled when locked.

Just to add on a lighter note, anyone who wants to reach in and take my Nav disc out, they are welcome to it. It's a 2007 version, and my Nav doesn't work anymore, anyway.

If Santa called and told you to stop by and pick up your new Corvette, you'd wish you still had that DVD to find his house.

I would be afraid to park with the top down. You are begging some idiot to take whatever they feel they can get away with. Why temp them?

Top up or down; never park it with anything (visible at the least) that will tempt a thief. A thief can break a window and grab something as quickly as just reaching in and grabbing, and be gone just as quickly.

When parking with the top down; park respectfully to avoid asshats. This means between the lines or the same as all the other folks, if no lines are present. Don't park with the top down in an area that is not visible. Obviously, if the neighborhood is sketchy, leaving the top down is a bad idea, but as a blanket rule, I would say most people will respect the car and not mess with it, given the above guidelines.

Yeah, I was just thinking about wear and tear on the roof. But I guess the best course of action is to always put the top up in a public space.

No one can ever fault you for this, but I guess I wasn't clear. I park all the time with the top off, and (knock-wood) have never had any issues.

I park with the top off fairly often but I am choosy about where I park and I always put the windows up which makes it hard to reach inside. I don't leave it for long periods of time and I don't leave anything visible in the car.

My wife and I park the Miata with the top down if either A) we will be in view of the car or B) it's a quick in and out trip.
But the Miata has a button inside the trunk that disables the trunk popping button in the car so that only the key will open the trunk. Also good luck finding that trunk button in the cabin, I know where it is and it still gives me fits.

If the top is up, and the car is locked, there is a risk that someone will cut the top to get to a $10.00 CD. I rarely lock the car.
