Default Headlight Replacement

After owning my new to me Corvette for less than 2 weeks the right headlight went bad. After poking around on the forum for a while, I found a few posts that helped me to do the job myself. I would however, highly recommend removing the wheel to have plenty of access. Below are some pictures that may help others in the future. If you attempt to do this yourself, be certain to pay special attention to not dropping the little screws that retain the bulb. I purchased the bulb on e-bay for $15.00 for two. The entire job took less than 1 hour.

Does the Xenon bulb lose luminosity over time like LEDs?

Excellent pics, OP.
Looks like ballast is easily accessed, good news for me.

To the Op, be prepared to do the job again before too long. Those Ebay bulbs will not last very long. Been there, done that. Good write up however.

The are over $100.00 at the local parts stores. I purchased them on on-line 2 for $15.00. They look identical to the one I replaced but only time will tell how long they will last. I have these same HID's in my wife's car which we've owned for 10 years and never had to replace one.

That's the bulb, not the ballast, the ballast is a little more difficult to access, I did a write-up on changing the ballast on my 05. Later models (06 and up) differ slightly but it's basically the same steps. You can find my write-up here. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...t-ballast.html

Thanks for the reminder mads,
Now I recall participating in your thread w/ question concerning ballast foot print difference*s) between '05 & other MYs.
An excellent thread, suitable for a sticky.

Damn, sure hope GY shop doing my install come Spring knows these shortcuts as you outlined.
Dealer wants beaucoup $ for labor alone making it sound like entire front needed to be disassembled in order to access/affect replacement.
Dealers.

Oh yeah that's right I remember you. Any idea how much they're going to charge you for labor ? It wouldn't surprise me if they told you the whole front end had to come off so they could charge you more money, and if that's what they say I'd call them on their BS. Doing it they way I did it should take them less than an hour to complete. Hell, if you were closer I'd do it for you for nothing. Let me know how things work out for you.

Be aware that sometimes it is not the bulb that is causing the light output to be dimmer over time, but the actual silver coating inside the pod that reflects the light flakes/wears/burns away. Changing just the bulb will not fix light output due to that issue.
