Default Can I pull my new boat.?

Just bought a new boat, motor, and trailer, and it’s a little heavy to pull with my 4 cylinder four-wheel-drive Rav 4. Altogether it weighs about 1500 lbs. do you think it would be ok to add a hitch to my 06 vette and pull it with that?

Alright I may get flamed for this, but why would you even consider pulling a boat with your corvette or any sports car?? The best thing to do is trade in your Rav 4 for a V6 Highlander, Tacoma or better yet a Tundra if you like to stay with Toyota trucks. There's also the offerings from Ford, Chevy, and Dodge.

The short answer is YES. Ecklers and others sell Class I hitches for your C6. I've had one installed on Red since it was three weeks old. The only catch is the load must be balanced such that the tongue weight does not exceed 200 pounds.

When Chuck Mosello (Chuck/CoW) replaced my original exhaust system with NPP, he had to modify that hitch to fit in the narrower space between the tips. He pulled out his blue arc welder and cut large bars out of an old snowplow blade, fashioned new mounting brackets with them, and bolted the modified hitch to the rear frame and internal bumper box frame. I swear it's strong enough to pull a cabin cruiser now as long as I get the tongue weight right. Lord knows Red's supercharged LS2 and hydroformed steel frame together make a stronger towing package than most large pickups.

I use my hitch to pull a small utility trailer full (!) of four C6 wheels/tires, or far more camping gear than Red's tiny vert trunk could haul to the lake. Do I get grief from Corvette purists? Sure I do, and I ignore them.

Others have done it. If that's what you want and need to do, then do it. Enjoy the boat and the car. And send me a couple of fish when you get some!

Early April fools joke....

Sure there's enough hp but can't imagine how there would ever be enough traction to get out of a boat launch.

Time to think about plan C.....

Is the Rav 4 all wheel drive or 4 wheel drive? Is it in front drive in its normal mode?Is it not recommended to tow any load at all?

I saw snowmobiles being towed by a vette. Why would you even think about doing that. Just my opinion...

My 07 owners manual says not to tow anything, no reason as to why. How often, distances and speeds might be factors to consider. Remember too, the weight of the boat is empty, gas, food, beverages and toys will add weight. How does the car and trailer react when a large truck passes you, those are white knuckle moments with a vehicle equipped to tow trailers?

This almost has to be a joke, as even a 4 cylinder Rav 4 is much better prepared to pull a 2000 pound load than a Vette.

If this Z06 can pull a trailer with snowmobiles in the winter you can surely pull your fishin' boat. Screw the haters!

What does it matter what someone does with a car that isn't yours?

Towing is the easy part. Stopping, eh, not so easy.

Likely no worse than this: (Saw this one weekend at a restaurant near us)

But it is NOT recommended IMHO....
