As the post title says, was looking to install a backup camera and looked up at the key hole area and noticed a perfect spot that appears to be around 1” in diameter but has a rubber plug or covering in this location. When I run my finger into the gap by the license plate light, it feels like an electrical plug is on the other end of this plug.
Anyone know what this thing is?
Almost reminds me of a weatherproof momentary switch for what could have been the hatch actuator but obviously is not what it’s purpose is.
Bill.
I have a vert, not a coupe, but sounds to me like it's the button to pop the top. If you want to mount a rear camera, use one of the screws in that area, and don't mess with that button.
That is the hatch release button. The mounting bracket for the camera I got from Amazon fit almost perfectly around the button. Although I never use it, the button is still accessible and functional and the camera is almost centered.
