Yesterday I repaired my Heads Up Display.
Hi all. Yesterday I removed my Heads UP display from the car and repaired the loose passenger side mirror gimbal due to shaky HUD image.
It took me about two hours to fix it and the funny thing was it took nothing but a washer to repair the gimbal piece that deteriorated and came loose.
The hardest part was taking the HUD out. I did decide upon the cutting the air duct and the I used a wire saw to cut it which was really fast. To reinstall the duct I used aluminum duct tape.
You can find videos on the internet which is what i used to reference the repair. Just remember the wire saw since it makes the whole process much quicker.

Personally, I can't get my hands in there (the HVAC ducts) to ensure an adequate seal long term.

I really did not want to cut anything however I watched and read the instructions on how to lift the dash and it was way more than a couple hours time. More like six as it was said.

Just one question: since that alum. duct tape is in a "hot" area where heater hoses are not far away, is that a long-term fix, to use aluminum duct tape? I am just asking, not criticizing the use of the tape.
Edit: just did some research; looks like it's good for tape in hot/cold. http://tapesandtech.com/blog/foil-ta...tter-heres-why

I called it aluminum duct tape. It is the same stuff that they used to seal my hot water heater chimney and its been that way for years. It is really thick aluminum with sticky added to one side. It looks like duct tape but its not the same stuff. I doubt this will fail anytime soon. I suppose if it needed to be re taped its not a big deal to remove the instrument panel and re tape it.
