Default Paint Touch Up

I have a 2009 Victory Red Corvette in mint conditions. I recently scratched/scraped the front lower bumper pulling into a parking space that has a cement stopper. What is the best way of repairing the scrapes, one deep scratch. Thanks.

If you can catch your fingernail in the scratch, it will require a body shop. If not, it can be wet sanded and buffed out with a machine polisher.

Or buy a large bottle of DR Color Chip and fill it in slowly over a few weeks until it's flush with the rest of the paint! That actually works though it does take some time to finish.

Thanks Corvette Ed.I’ll probably have a body shop look at it and see what they will charge. I’m just not sure I trust anyone with the car.

Thanks Kevinkar. I may let a body shop take a look.

Where are you located? Someone might be able to provide a good reference for you.

How visible is it ? There are several home garage remedies for this that may work depending on how good the repair has to look. For instance....if it's more or less under the bumper where it's not really gonna be noticed then i'd do as one post suggest fill with color chip. Then let it cure for a few days. Then sand smooth with some 600....1000....1500 in that order and then buff.

I would have a body shop do a detail paint blend to just the damaged area under the nose.

Having the entire nose repainted is less desirable because it would likely be necessary to blend into the hood and fenders to get the right match. Also, it's not a good idea to build up layers of paint on flexible body parts because the thicker the paint is the more likely it is to get spiderweb cracks in it if it is flexed.

Agreed...that is the rule of thumb my body man gave me as well! For slight "rub" marks I have used toothpaste, polishing and rubbing compounds as well. Use in that order, least aggressive to most. Has anyone tried these clear "fillers"? If just the clear is scratched these are supposed to fill in the clear scratch. I have a couple very minute scratches in the clear I would like to try this on.
